I wanted to install some snow tires I have from my old Avalon onto my stock 15 inch 2011 Prius rims. The size of the snow tires is 205/65/15. The Toyota dealer says that the tires shouldn't be installed on the Prius. According to the dealer, changing the size of the tire from the stock size will "throw off the hybrid system" as well as the speedpmeter and that the Prius can only have the stock tire size installed.
    Any thoughts?

25.5" vs 195/65-15 being 25", and the car comes with 185/65-15" which is 24.5"

err, ignore the dealer, do put 4 of the same size on, stock is 195/65-15(25"), and the speedometer is almost correct, 205/65-15(25.5") will work, check the speedometer against a gps or scangauge2 for accurate speed, you may find 30 on the speedo is actually 31mph.

Thanks for the response. I was sure that the tires would work, but the Toyota dealer refuses to put them on, so now I have to go there and pick up the car and take it somewhere else to have the snow tires put on.

I just had my car serviced at the dealer and ask if I could put 17 inch tires would fit on my car. They came with 15" wheels. Thinking it might give me better gas mileage. They just said they don't recommend changing tire size.

I know it would affect the speed...bit not that much.

How are you going to put 17 inch tires on 15 inch rims?
