I definitely would NOT buy another Prius!!!

I would buy two Priuses. :) The car still amazes and impresses me five years later. It is the defacto standard and number one in the USA and around the world. The reliability, economy, dependability, no range "anxiety" and gold standard customer support = major market captivation and retention. The current 3% of hybrids is comprised mainly of the Prius.

The others have a tough road f increasing their market share, especially the Volt.

Heh, for the vehicles which they use on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, where the politicians work in Canada. They store the hydrogen fuel about 5mi as crow flies away from them. I think it might be a dangerous fuel to be at every tom, dick and shell station. At least that is what I think about it, not good enough to be in a tank on PH don't want one near my house either.

Any pressurized gas has risks. Hydrogen is safer than gasoline, by far.

    Hmm....would I buy another Prius?

Well since I just bought my first, that's a hard question to answer. After a couple of months, I'm very satisfied with it. I would say projecting "Hopefully" years and years into the future, it would take a vehicle that really, really impressed me in some very tangible way to lure me away.

Once you start living with the reality of getting 45-50+ MPG, even grandiose claims of regular ICE getting 30-35...maybe 40 highway sound pretty hollow. I'd have to really love this other car, for me to want to accept that level of efficiency now.

The other possible reality would be if I started to have premature or a lot of rapid failures of the vehicle itself. Being a Toyota and hanging around Prius Chat for years, I'm not expecting this to become a reality. But I suppose it is a possibility.

If I admit to temptation, I'd say I could be tempted in a couple of years to buy a used 2nd vehicle. I've always wanted a Jeep, but not as my "only" vehicle. But I think one would be a blast as a 2nd vehicle. I also have a weakness for a simple pick-up....I love them for instant utility and camping.

Either of those 2nd vehicle realities could easily happen.

But for everyday driving...long road trips...and suburban sprawl? I still think The Prius is one of the best vehicles you can own. It's the right tool for the job, most of the time.

After having the 2006 Prius for 4 years we added a brand new 2013 Prius C. So yes we would buy and did buy another Prius. And last year we also added a 1 year old RX450h. 3 Hybrids.

Even if gas was free, the hybrid has so many advantages we won't be looking at "traditional" ICE only vehicles anymore for anything. Hybrid or EV only.

I have owned my Prius 10 months and it is a great car. I enjoy the technology and 50 MPG.

I rented a Chrysler Sebring on vacation and just a few things for example no back up camera and having to get the keys out and hit the open button was annoying. The convertible was enjoyable.

If I had to do it again I would have purchased the PIP. They seem to be very happy with the investment.

Quiet. No transmission, no gear changes, instant power at any speed. Instant torque. 10K oil changes. Essentially lifetime brakes, mine are almost new looking at 110K miles. You can run your entire house off of the vehicle in cases of power outages or emergencies. Not many other vehicles are 20KW super efficient generators. Move around the driveway to shuffle cars in and out without burning any gas, no chance of water condensing in the engine. Gas mileage is a definite bonus. There are other advantages as well, but fuel economy is not the only thing a hybrid has.

There are several people on here who rented Prius cars directly from Toyota dealers for a few days before making the purchase decision. Not having done it myself I can't say how easily this is accomplished but it appears that the real world is better than you think :)

    "Would I buy another Prius?"

Considering this is the Priuschat Forum, the odds are likely most have or would here again. As has been pointed out and addressed, the Prius does not meet everyone's present or future needs. For those that have not or would not, that is perfectly OK as well.

You can rent any car. Just depends on how much money you want burn. There is a company about 60miles from me that rents exotic supercars and hypercars. It will cost you about $1500 to $5000 a day, plus you are responsible for any damage, but you can rent a quarter of a million dollar car if you want to. Lots of Toyota dealerships allow you to rent any of their vehicles indefinitely. Even the Rav4 EV is a rental. Most of these vehicles are loaner cars for major services so they are already "free rentals". By giving them out for money, they really don't lose anything more.

If your ever in San Diego you can rent a Ferrari 328 for $600 a day. Some of the other Ferraries can set you back a few Grand a day.

I would buy something else next. I've never owned the same model twice. I've owned over 30 cars and like the variety of different makes and models. I do find that mpgs are important. Accord hybrid seems like it will be nice.

I will definitely buy another hybrid or PHEV. Not necessary a Prius though. The new Honda Accord is very attractive and I am pretty sure there will be more choices when I shop again.

I bought a 2008 new, then replaced a truck with a 2012 Prius v so I have both now. I would replace one of them when the new design is available in 2015. I might consider the new Accord Hybrid assuming it lives up to it's mileage claims with some assurance of reliability. But I suspect Toyota will up the ante in 2015. I would like to see lithium batteries and plugin across the Prius line. The Chevy Volt could also be a contender with more range.

I've only owned my Prius v since May, so I better say YES ;) I knew the advantages and disadvantages when I got it, so no surprises. I didn't want another sedan or an SUV, so the v made the final cut.

    1. Gas mileage
    2. Roomy cargo hold
    3. Roomy back seat
    4. Good visibility and driver position
    5. Reliability
We needed a vehicle with room for "stuff", and I didn't want a gas guzzler.

We also have a 2007 Camry hybrid with over 100,000 miles on it. Replacing that car eventually is the bigger question. Depending on the actual costs, the #1 target now would be the Accord Hybrid. Not only does it get better mileage that the Camry Hybrid, but it's more comfortable, more fun to drive, roomier back seat. However, Toyota dealers have traditionally been far easier to deal with than the Honda dealers, both in terms of the sale and negotiating a price.

We probably won't look for 2-3 years, so lots can change by then. Clearly the Ford Fusion hybrid with it's wild claims of 47 mpg has some work to do. The Camry hybrid also will have to compete directly in this segment. Right now I rate them as

    1. Accord Hybrid
    2. Camry Hybrid
    3. Fusion Hybrid ?
The first company that produces Accord mileage figures with a larger trunk will win.
