That is also correct. All of the rental agencies have that for their cars. But you aren't insured all you have is liability coverage and that's just your money. If you have a leased or financed car it's required to have full coverage

Wow, first off I'd like to apologize for the delay, I thought I was subscribed to my own post so I never got any notification that there were posts.

I have attached a picture of the damage. What do you all make of it?

I am trying not to involve the insurance because I know what it is like to be in his position - and I have definitely had my fair share of breaks that have helped me in life so I'd like to pay it forward. Of course if the situation can't be remedied then I will have to get the insurance company involved.

In California you need insurance to register your car, or post bond - that does not keep people from driving with out it[IMG].

Someone had suggested a place off Riverside drive, I will definitely look into them. Any other ideas, advice, guidance? Thanks again!!!!

Honestly. It seems as if broken clips. But you don't have to get that guy in trouble you could just tell insurance company that you don't remember a lic plate and lost his info
    If there more hidden damage

Do you think it will be expensive to fix? He said he would pay for it, I just want to get a ball park idea of what I could be dealing with. There is also a scratch on the rear bumper but it looks minor, I can't even see it in the picture.

This Prius was in perfect condition when I got it, whoever owned it before me took good care of it, and only put on 20k miles!

Clips, no they are fairly cheap depending on how many they usually cost 3$ a piece. you should try to feel the scratch If it feels deep or clear coat. I think the damage is minimal and a simple fix. It seems it could be fixed by buffing and polishing

Sweet! I am in the Hollywood area, and I work in Santa Monica. I will have to see about getting a quote on the work needed. Hopefully this gets taken care of quickly.

BTW I love this Gen III Prius, the car is amazing. Took it up to Santa Barbara, I like driving with my windows down so I can get the ocean breeze, and still got 50MPG!

If he reports to insurance, won't they report to carfax? Seems like a few broken clips aren't worth a 'collision reported' line on his vehicle's carfax history. I was in a fender bender some time ago and I had a dealer tell me it took 2k off the trade in value.

My rx 450h got in a accident and I did go through a insurance company for some odd reason my car wasn't reported to car fax. The if you got in a "fender bender" and the your car value was lost as the dealer quoted you less because of it you should file a diminished value claim

Run your fingers along the inside wheel well. See if you feel that the clip is still there but popped out of place on the other side of the well. If it is still there, all you have to do is open your hatch and undo the exposed bolt on the same side as the damage. Lower the bumber and then snap back into place and tighten the bolt. That will fix it if the clip is not broken.

I had someone almost run me out of my lane, I made a quick turn and the bottom of the bumper hit a bump in the pavement (my car is lowered and has ground effects). When I got home, my bumper looked exactly like yours, but my clip was not broken, just popped out to the wrong side, but if you don't undo the bolt, you can't get it back in the proper place...

Go to any body shop and get a free estimate. Sounds like you didn't get the police involved so no police report? When an uninsured vehicle rear ended my previous car I didn't hesitate to immediately notify my insurance company and the police. Those seemingly not much damage bumper hits have a habit of getting expensive. Your vehicle was pristine before he hit it and you should have it back that way. Screw him and thank him for all the aggravation and wasted time he has now given you.

    Yes plastic clips.
I had someone hit me from behind at 25mph and it did no real damage but the bumper movement sheered the head off the plastic clips in that area. If you are talking about the gap in the seam, it pops back in as long as the bumper was not deformed. It's hard to tell from the reflection in the corner if the bumper was deformed and does not match the lines of the other side.
