This time, solar roof and HID - maybe?

    Hi Everyone,
(Since changing email addresses a few years ago, and changing computers that auto-stored our long-in and passwords, I had to open a new priuschat account.)Many posters on this site were so very helpful and wise, and we bought our first Prius with that kind assistance! Everyone we meet who says they too are considering a Prius, I urge them to join this chat grp because it makes such a difference!

Today, it's time to trade in our still beloved '08 Touring in favor of an end of the year - and hopefully sweet deal on a 2013. The only two things we don't have now and I hope to get are: 1) brighter headlights - I swear my iPhone could send out more light... and 2) a solar roof - less because of cooling in the summer (we live in the PNW) but because I love the open feel and more light.

    QUESTIONS:
    1. If I can get dealer to upgrade a pkg 3 w/ HID lights, for $, should I? Local dealers are saying around $300-400 to do that. I'm not mechanical, so a DIY isn't an option.
    2. Do folks think that solar roof adds some aesthetic enjoyment to inside the cabin?
    3. I'm looking at a 2013 pkg 3 w/solar roof and Navigation for (so far this is their asking price) $25,000 less 1K rebate and zero interest for 36 mo. Is this sounding like a good deal? I can choose from several colors...

As always, I am so very grateful for the input of you wise Prius folks!
    Thanks, -Madeleine

I have the solar roof option. It was expensive about $3,000. The car is cooler inside with the air blowing on hot days. The car circulates air when the car is off and if it's above 70 degrees. When you drive I almost always have the shade open to get the light in. I on occasion have the top open but I like the AC on if it's hot out.

In retrospect it is a good option but an expensive one. I use it so I got the option. The navigation is ok. I use that occasionally. Comes in handy on a driving vacation.

The Prius will have a redesign in 2015. ThE gen 4. You may want to wait for the new model which will release in about 12 months

I see you've got a black w/dark grey interior - that is tops on my list. Our '08 is black w/bisque - see interior we customed... I'm thinking the amount of brushed silver-look on the '13 dash would look far better with dark grey - how do you like yours? Am I right that the ceiling is lighter? Can't tell by photos per Toyota... Is it a light grey or off-white?
THANKS for your input. Tempting to wait for 2015, but we need to do it now... :)

The darker interior looks better to me and it's easy to keep clean. The roof is lighter. If you need the car now there are some deals out there.

sunroof is great until that sucker breaks in the open position. perhaps toyota may do a better job than Benz-- they break far too often. i have fixed many.
