Is a CPO prius supposed to come with 2 smartkeys?

Two fobs are delivered with the car. If the dealer is too stupid or lazy to collect two keys from the seller then that is their problem. I suspect they screwed the seller down because the 2nd key is missing. Other removable parts came standard with the car. Would you pay full price if the spare tire, jack, or the cover for the deck was missing?

If one key is acceptable for CPO then the program is a joke. If it is acceptable for CPO then it should be acceptable for the new car.

Did I just suggest the next upsell? Car comes with one key--second key is extra.

For me, a car with one key is just not a consideration.

 

Years ago, I helped someone shop for a used Acura TL. The dealer kept claiming they were losing $ selling it to us at the price the quoted. They showed us some "documentation" showing how much they bought it for, how much $ they invested into reconditioning, certifying, etc. Blah blah... neither of us believed it.

That's the toughest part about shopping for used cars. You don't know how much they really paid for the car and there are so many other variables that don't exist w/new cars. For new ones, at least you can find out what deals others are getting, invoice price, holdback, what incentives are going on, etc.

As for only have 1 key, that sucks. I agree. Make them either give you a 2nd key or have them dock the price by the amount their parts and service dept will charge you for a 2nd key and programming the car to recognize it.

It's so annoying to hear about this only 1 key used cars. I'm guessing that someone pocketed the 2nd key somewhere along the way for a tidy profit.

 

It's usually a salesman not checking for a second key on a trade-in.

 

No Certified per owned does not need have a 2nd key. I talked to few Toyota people. I bout my 2012 used and at the time there were (2) keys on desk as we did the deal. When sales was handing me paperwork he tells me only one, they others were mistakenly in car. Long story... $490 for key,fob, programming. After complaining and making calls they decided replace all and I pay the programming fee. At this point waiting for the laser cut key to come in.

When I got my 2010 CPO I asked before I went into the dealership. They said that CPO did "not" guarantee a second key but luckily they did find another.

 

Honestly, it sounds like you are being offered a great deal even without the extra key. A package 4 with a sunroof (an expensive option) should go for a grand or two more than what you are being offered. You did mention that the condition is not that good so that might change things depending on what is wrong with the condition.

A replacement fob should only cost you about 250 if you get a used one. I had to do the same thing since my CPO only came with one key as well.
