Key FOB locked in car

    My mom is visiting from out of town and we went outside to get into her car only to discover all four doors plus the hatchback to be locked. I asked my mom for the keys and she said there they are in the center cup holder. She then stated that you're not supposed to be able to lock the doors with the key fob in the car. I said, well I guess that theory is all wrong. So, we have a 2007 Prius sitting in the driveway with no way to open the doors. Can anyone help me with a resolution? Anyone have experience with Pop-a-lock type shops with Prius'? Or should I call AAA?

    I did note that when you press the black square button on the door handle you get a short beat tone but nothing else happens.

    the black button locks the doors. try gripping the handle.

    Try any tow truck operator (AAA if it's already paid for) to see if they can slim-jim their way into the car. If that doesn't work, any locksmith can get past the door lock in a few minutes.

    The 2007 (Gen2) key is a simple outside cut. The Gen3 key has the cut down the middle of a slot. It's the same theory, but a locksmith has to have newer equipment to pick the lock.

    And congratulations on locking a Prius key inside the car. :sneaky: The only ways I know to do that are with a mechanical key, another keyfob (press lock button), and tossing the keyfob through a window that is closing.

    Thank ya'll for the responses. Will be calling a locksmith this morning. We figure my mom accidentally pressed a door lock button while the key fob was in the cup holder. We're passing it off on a weak battery in the fob which allowed the doors to be locked.
