yes, we tried that. It only worlks for NAV not phone, and you have to do it every time you restart your car

That doesn't work in an '06 either - just in '04-'05.

I just picked up my '06 fresh off the boat. "No" back up beep that would be great! Mine beeps so loud I could wake the dead. Most annoying feature next to the passenger seat belt alarm, that increases in volume and frequency. - Frank

I don't know you guys hate the beep. I love that beep, it makes the prius different from other cars. And it made me aware that I am in reverse mode.

Wow, this is the most interesting thread we've had around here in a while. As I have an '06 also, I'm watching this carefully. One more thing, Fred: do you have to press "I Agree" to get into Nav? If you don't, the you've got the ultimate setup!

Fredmertz- here's the plan of action when taking it to the dealer:

    1. Get gun
    2. Tell them your "problem" and ask how they did it
    3. Ask to go with the tech when they take your car.
3b. If denied, take out gun to show them that you will be going back with the tech.
    4. Watch tech.
4b. If tech tries to disable this sweet setup you got going, use gun to assert they will be setting it back to how it was before you brought it in.
    5. Leave with all information necessary to duplicate it.
    6. Post it on Priuschat, where we will worship you like a god.

Just kidding, I don't condone violence.

In all honesty, I would consider thinking long and hard before telling the dealer about it. You are at one heck of a fork in the road

It would be great to know this information for the rest of us, and for yourself, in case someone ever resets it somehow, but honestly, one of the main things that is probably looking to be overrided by us here is the nav and bluetooth lockout. If you told the dealer and the dealer were to set it back, you'd probably regret it.

On the other hand, there could be something wrong with your car, either minor or major. I don't mean to say that there is, because I have no grasp of the electronics of a Prius. If you don't get it checked out, you might lose functionality of one or some of these electrical systems.

It looks like you have a few weeks to decide, and hopefully others will chime in with thoughts on it as well.

If anyone with more knowledge about the car wants to take a look at it before I bring it to the dealer please let me know. I work in the Irvine area. I haven't checked the build date yet because I get to work in the dark and leave in the dark. Heck, I haven't driven this car in the daylight yet.

Playing with your navigation system while driving 45mph on the freeway? Are you completely nuts?? You are very lucky that I did not come up behind you while playing with my navigation system, 75 vs 45 is not a good match.

Ok, here is one final test! Make an mp3 cd, with folders, get in your Prius and drive on the freeway, and try to scroll around in the folders while driving, if this works too! I am heading to Irvine to steal your Prius! You are very unlucky, I grew up there! I will hunt down this fully functional #8! j/k. Sounds like you a sweet ride.

Any update on this? Fredmertz's Prius gives the 2006 owners a glimmer of hope for a decently functional NAV/mobile phone while driving.

I find that the voice recognition errors and repeats are actually more distracting when trying to enter in a NAV destination than just having a passenger do it. The fact that Bluetooth doesn't seem to pair after the car is also moving is just downright frustrating and useless.

Anyone have ideas on how we can compare the configuration of this ’06 Prius with other ’06’s? My build date is 1/06 and I can say that I don’t have these features active while driving. Unless this is a configuration change made in the last month, my guess is that we can find something to enable this type of configuration on all ‘06’s if desired.

I Agree, if you can weed through all the junk polls, and useless crap PC has been aquiring lately. This used to be a 100% useful and helpful site. Now its about 60% useful and 40% nonesense that should go somewhere else.

I hope there is a ture fix to be had on the nav lockout, not just a troll jerkin some chains.

Did you just call me a troll? And I was so complimentary to the people on this site. If you would like to see the car, Please show up at my office today. You can email me for my address.

I pivked up my car from the dealer last week. It arrived in Long Beach the Friday before. I assume the build date is sometime in December or early Janaury.

I picked mine up Saturday night. 06 with Package 07. While driving screen is functional, can toggle between applications, but cannot enter commands in navigation screen, all keys are locked. In reverse, the beeping starts as soon as Reverse is engaged and rear camera starts.
    Hope this helps

    Fred -

Don't worry about the troll remark... people are naturally skeptical because of the almost "too good to be true" nature of what you report with your car. A number of people have been very frustrated by the forced limitations of the Nav/MFD lockouts.

Can you confirm your build date for us? It's on the sticker in the driver's side door jamb. That will help us possibly rule out build date as a factor.

If I could afford to fly down to Irvine right now I'd jump at the chance to come inspect your Prius... I'd drive down, but I'd be unable to enter your address while moving. :)

No problem. I have been called much worse.
    The build date is 01/06

The last four digits of my VIN# is 55388

    Hope that helps.

Absolutely no disrespect intended. Like bobr1 said, everyone wants the over ride for the nav, so some might try to lead us on. Not you. Sorry if it came across wrong.

I don't have the nav, but I do have the phone/MP3 and would love the fix.
