The base also has navigation on its smaller 6" screen

The base has a 6" display but does not have HDD navigation.

The 6" display Nav in the base PIP is pretty lame and it's expensive to update maps.
Many here use a Garmin or other portable GPS that are more reliable and include quarterly map updates.

And it mounts very nicely in that little window to the left of the dashboard.

That's where I mount my iPhone with the TomTom app. My only issue is routing the power cable. Right now I just drape it over the steering column.

The Garmin power cable is a reasonably small size. What you see in the picture is the only exposed part. It runs from the 12v socket, under the driver's seat, under the floor mat, up behind the parking brake area, excess cable in that nice cubby hole to the left of the parking brake, then pushed into the molding slot along the door jam up to the top of the dashboard.

Unfortunately that may not work well with the much thicker cable they supply with the traffic capability. I don't commute so I don't care about the traffic info.

They already have a limited set of gauge measurements that can be made with their "Garmin ecoRoute HD Vehicle Diagnostics Communicator HD" using Bluetooth communications to some Garmin GPS units. However, it didn't work in my PiP and I'm very happy with ScanGauge.

Hmmn, I was getting ready to sell our old [pre (us) smartphone] Garmin Nuvi 360 with our replaced car for $35. We use Mapquest or WAZE Apps mostly for nav, but now makes me wonder if the old Garmin might be worth hanging on to.

Its a bit tricky. Glue won't work. I drilled 2 very small holes in the mounting area that should be easy to patch and hard to see if the gauge is removed. I used a steel wire to attach a plastic strip. The whole "dashboard" cover in that area just snaps off so you can run the wire and twist it tight. Then I used the Velcro method to attach the gauge.
