Kudos to Dianne Whitmire and Carson Toyota. Flew down to purchase a Sea Green Prius PIP last weekend and the green HOV stickers arrived in our mailbox here in San Francisco Bay Area today. HOV stickers received 7 days after the car was purchased! She filled out all the paperwork and took care of all the documentation before I even left her dealership.

I think the reason you got them so fast was that her dealership already had the stickers when you bought the car. After making sure the paperwork was in order, they dropped them in the mail to you.

I sent my application around mid-December. I received the sticker a couple days ago :)

    My sticker #'s around 28900.

 That means that they are essentially 3/4 of way to the 40,000 limit for the green (plug-in) decals. So the projections that the limit will be hit this year make sense. So much for any thought of taking advantage of the 2015 PiP upgrade....

Finally got mine; took about 4 weeks altogether. But they arrived just 2 days after my check cleared the bank. Who cares what # they are -- I'm in the Lane again. Ahhhhhhh

We don't have your concept of HOV lanes here in crowded UK (a few specific lanes for buses, taxis (and politicians)).

In Europe there are some 'Low Emission Zones' ..... Low Emission Zones in Europe

I applied for the German LEZ sticker, which covers all of Germany, and have just received it after four weeks including Christmas. It cost €5 from the Cologne authorities and is valid for the life of the car.

Hahha the posting the sticker number helps others to decide either they would like to purchase a PiP or not. Since only 40,000 stickers are given out for this program.

Congrats on getting the sticker :)

A further tidbit of data: the 40,000 limit is over all models of plug-in hybrids. This is unlike the old yellow decals of several years back where the Prius was pretty much the only qualifying model (some Honda Civic hybrids also qualified). Depending on congestion in the HOV lanes, the limit might get raised, as happened for the yellow decals, but don't count on it. We were lucky to get the extension past the former January 2015 expiration date.

There is no limit on the number of white decals (pure alternative fuel, such as electric battery, hydrogen, or natural gas).

The limit is written into the law - California Vehicle Code 5205.5(f)(1). It was amended last year to extend the expiration of the stickers through 2018. Another change is unlikely and pretty much impossible before they run out.

People who are getting stickers now, please post the sticker number and the date you got it.

Are you sure it wasn't 28,600?

The CARB web site said 28,739 were issued as of 12/31/13. And ckam1989 said above that he got 28,900 in mid-January.

It's the number on the sticker right? Mine's around 29600, I just checked it right now. There's a new plug-in in the neighboring parking lot, I'll check his number when his stickers come in.

Looks like they're not sending them out exactly in numeric order.

I'm really curious to see what will happen to the sales of the PiPs and Plug-ins in general once the 40k limit is reached.

Are you supposed to wait for your license plate and registration to come through the mail first before you can apply and get your sticker??

The dealership submitted the application for me. I thought you need your license number to apply for it yourself, but I'm not sure what that process is. If possible choose a dealership that does it for you.

You don't need the License plate to get the sticker. I applied the very next day I bought my Prius Plug-in. All you need is the VIN, proof of registration, application, and $8. :) My sticker came in before the License plate. I suggest you to apply for the sticker as soon as possible.

I do not know what the process is, but I heard some dealerships are applying for stickers (not sure if this is true) so the buyer can drive off with a Prius Plug-in including the sticker. If that's the case.. the stickers will be gone pretty fast. :(

When I applied in early Nov, the form specifically asked for license plate # and I even called DMV and asked and they said I had to wait to get my plate because each sticker # is assigned to a plate #. Unless it's changed recently...
That said, you can shorten the process by calling DMV after a few days from purchase date. They should be able to tell you your plate number. That's what I did.

You can see and download the form here.
