    Hi everyone. I am a new and happy Prius owner. How couldn't I love the fact that after the first day of taking the car to work, it will show this on the MFD? This this at work, then I have another 34/5 miles going back home. Pic_0120_121.jpg

    Lol...it's not too bad the temperature!!! :)
    I don't know what package it has, as there was no manuals in the car. I just bought it last Friday 17th. It had 155800 miles, and I have added already another 300.
    If it helps, it has side airbags, back up camera, and I think that is it.

    Looks like mine Package 3 but if you have GPS/NAV it would be higher package.

    Sounds great! I bought my `06 with 145,000 miles on it last year. It has been a great car thus far. This website has been an important part of my prius ownership. Its good to have you aboard!

    I used to drive my now defunct 99 Ford Escort very much the same way you are supposed to drive a Prius (and most cars for that matter) slow accelerations, avoiding sudden stops etc, etc.
    I drive mostly highways and back roads. I always used to think, when breaking driving down hill "what a waste of energy", now not so much! :)
    Thanks all, once again...and surely I will be coming back to ask questions, read the very interesting posts and share my experiences and try to help others, if I can!

    Welcome to PC. The strange thing with the Prius is that you get better mpg if you accelerate briskly rather than gently. Get the acceleration part over quickly, then come off the accelerator and re apply to hold or slightly loose speed.

    That's so true John. After my initial cruising around and taking off at a snails pace to conserve fuel, I experimented with quick takeoff's then nursing that accelerator pedal once I quickly attained my desired speed. It actually works, and my winter mpg is hovering around a respectable 54mpg with what is now more akin to brisk driving!

    I've also been doing a lot more pulsing and gliding - and it gets more and more easier and natural to do by the day :)

    This hybrid vehicle totally redefines the driving experience - it's certainly blown my mind :D

    While it is generally true, we have to take into account the distance that needs to be covered in that start-stop section.

    short distance to cover = less fuel needed = short/gentle acceleration better
    long distance to cover = more fuel needed = brisk acceleration better
