    Hey all,

I'm a previous poster who forgot his user name.. so i have a new ID.

Anyways, I bought the prius fog lights from the Prius Chat website and installed them per the instruction guide.

The lights work great but one BIG issue.

I cannot lock my car because after 3 seconds my alarm starts going off. Also whenever I start my car it chirps at me regardless if the alarm has gone off yet.

My car is currently on the road unlocked...

    Anyone have any ideas?

The only wire I tapped into was the light brown wire (per the instructions) on the lower connector of the ECU (as they called it).

Either how to fix the issue or how to kill my alarm would be great!! Is there a fuse for the alarm I can just pull?

To clarify: the wire I tapped into was the light brown/tan wire versus a regular brown wire (both were in the same connector)

Also, with the current set-up I have I am able to turn on the fogs in 'AC' mode - cars engine not on - and I can turn on the fogs without the low beam on.

Any help or if you can point me in the right direction would get greatly appreciated?

I just tried calling Karr Alarm support and they were no help. Tried to send a tech over to my house and they wanted $$.

Aren't you supposed to tap the brown wire?

There were two brown wires? And this guy on youtube said the light brown wire was the way to go?

    I have no idea...

The directions on the OEM foglight thread says to tap the brown wire, I did and had no problems. But I don't have an aftermarket alarm system.

Why don't you disconnect the tap into the tan/light brown wire and see if that solves your alarm issue.

If I'm not mistaken, you should only be able to turn on your foglights when the lowbeams are on if you wired them correctly. So I'd advise you to remove the tap from the light brown/tan wire and put it on the brown wire.

I took off the splice on the light brown/tan wire and the alarm still goes off after locking the prius.

I also disconnected the negative on the battery and reattached the negative. no luck.

I also disconnected the fog light kits 12volt positive red power cable from under the hood. no luck.

I did notice the Blue light doesn't light up on the Karr Alarm System. The light is located by the hood release latch. You have to un-attach the wiring on the blue light/switch in order to take off the trim. Would this have messed it up? It doesn't flash when i lock the car.

I'm all out of ideas here...!

Thanks. I actually did see this yesterday although my alarm had 3-4x more splices so I was hesitant to touch the thing. I'm trying to disconnect the 'brain' right now. although there is a master blue wire that runs right into the 'brain'. Not sure what that does... stay tuned.

I wimped out. There are so many wire splices down there I am afraid to undo all of them.

Also couldn't undo the brain connections.

I also have a KARR and looked into removing it. Nada, as it is so woven into harnesses that it is "brain surgery" beyond me! I'm not sure about your fog lights, but here's some tips on the KARR and how to put it into Valet Mode, which means temporarily disabling it:

Valet mode – with car on, press and hold blue button for 5 seconds until solid blue LED
Valet mode off – within 3 seconds of Prius on, press and hold blue button until LED off

Make sure Karr is disarmed (no LED lights)

    Turn Prius on

Press and release Karr blue button 3 times

Short LED light with 1 short horn

Before 3 seconds, turn Prius off

Horn will give a short-long chirp

Within 3 seconds, turn Prius back on (now in programming mode)

Horn will give a long-short chirp

Press Karr button one time per option (there are 4 options) the Karr LED will flash the number of times per option you are on.

Option 1 (one flash): wait ½ second and horn should chirp once (auto-lock with ignition on)

Option 2 (two flashes): wait ½ second and horn should chirp once (auto unlock with ignition off)

Option 3 (three flashes): wait ½ second and horn should chirp twice (passive arming and lock without lock)

Option 4 (four flashes): wait ½ second and horn should chirp twice (active arming)

Turn Prius off to exit programming.

Get out and arm…LED should flash.

Wait a bit and then attempt to disarm with fob.

Update: took it to a dealer last week because a Karr associate happened to be installing a new system.

My blue lit button wasn't lighting up and it turns out the prongs were bent inside the clip so the alarm system thought someone had tampered with the system. I noticed this prior to taking the car in and I thought I'd pulled the prongs out enough for contact, but apparently I had not.

The alarm works now. & the fog lights are awesome!
