Has anyone cut into or spliced into the stock antenna. If so, what was the type of cable used. I am thinking of using the antenna and would need to splice into it and add an connector.

It's a coax type cable. Mine has a mini Motorola connector. I run it into a splitter, one half feeds the stock radio, the other feeds the scanner I have installed the preamp located upstream of the radio certainly helps, I have more than enough usable signal to feed both radios!

It works really great, I have a BCT-996XLT. One minor note, per the Cal V.C Scanners are illegal, unless the driver has a valid Amateur Radio License! But fear not, it's a real easy test, once you have it, your good for 10 years, and if you ever get pulled over, the officer can't cite you for it!

been having a radio since about 1970 never had a problem and never heard CA law that way. I do know it is illegal if used in or with a crime, but if I'm just listening it is within the law.

Cite please. There is something in the CA penal code about not using a scanner during the commission of a crime, but I'm not aware of anything in the CVC or any California law that otherwise limits their use.

I'm originally from Southern California... Other than the scanner in the commission of a crime, I'm not aware of any other restriction but I have been gone awhile. I always had a scanner in my vehicle and didn't get my Ham License until after I moved to North Carolina. Something might have changed in CA in the last 10 or 12 years. As posted above just get your Technicians License and you'd be covered. Not that hard to do!

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, using any type of radio, scanner or legal two way radio in the commision of a crime is illegal under federal law.
