Alrighty.. so let's refresh our memories of the few issues with the BT on the Gen 3 Prius

    1. Name isn't displayed for an incoming call - only telephone number even though the contact is in the vehicle's phone book (this is when the car is stationary)
    2. Nothing is displayed (only "Incoming Call") when the car is in motion
    3. Incoming call disrupts backup camera screen (switches to the phone screen and doesn't switch back if you ignore/cancel the call)

    Background info:

There are 3 lines in the standard full screen phone display for calls. The first will either say "Calling" if you're dialing out, "Incoming call" if you're receiving a call or "Call Time" if you're in the middle of a call. The 2nd line will list the name of the contact if you're dialing or receiving or the call duration if you're in the middle of a call. The 3rd will display the telephone number of the person you're calling or from whom you're receiving a call

    Solution:

    1. The phone number in the phonebook must match exactly the number that is being received. This means it must include any "+", "#", or "1". If it doesn't match, the 2nd line will be blank and only the telephone number on the 3rd line will be shown
    2. The phone number is blanked when you receive a call when the car is in motion. However, the contact name can still be displayed. If a caller not listed in your phonebook calls you, you will only see "Incoming call". If the receiving call matches a number in your phonebook, it will display "Incoming call" then on the 2nd line, it will list the name of your caller. The 3rd line will still be blank because the telephone number is hidden while the car is in motion.
    3. This is the biggie. Whenever a call comes in, by default, the screen changes to the phone screen and you lose the audio, nav or backup camera screen (the latter being the most annoying). To fix that, go to SETUP --> Phone -> Details (last option on the list). Press the first option in the Details screen and you will be given a choice of "Full Screen" or "Drop Down Menu". Select "Drop Down Menu". From now on, any time you receive a call, you will see a bar drop down from above with "Incoming call, [contact name]" and the screen you were viewing before the call came in is unaffected which means you can continue to reverse with the camera on!

Thanks for the drop down menu info.

I guess I lucked out on the telephone numbers matching, since names of people in my contacts do appear on the screen when a call is received.

Good info. I am happy for the Bluetooth but the implementation is pretty lame compared to some cars I've owned previously.

I just got a 2010 prius last week! yey! I love everything about it, except one thing.

I read your post, my car manual, and my navigation manual, but none seem to address the problem that I am having. I have successfully connected my bluetooth phone to the car. It lists all of the contacts when the phone is on. I have tried to transfer the phonebook, let it sit for 30 min, and it still said "transferring contacts. please operate phone".

When a call comes in, all it says is "incoming call", no number, no name, no nothing! i checked the phone numbers, and they have all the right numbers, spaces and/or symbols in them.

Do you know how to address this issue?

The phonebook transfer may be phone-specific. For example, I can transfer contacts with my RAZR but not with my iPhone.

Also, make sure the numbers are exact to the "T". Again, using my two phones as an example

    1. RAZR - all calls came in with +1-areacode-phonenumber so the Prius' phonebook had to have the +1 even if my cellphone's phonebook doesn't in order for the Prius to display the name and/or number

    2. iPhone - all calls came in as entered in the Prius' phonebook so as long as the iPhone's phonebook matches the one stored in the Prius' phonebook exactly, the Prius will display the name of the contact, otherwise it'll just display the number as entered in the Prius' phonebook.

Also note that when in motion, only "Incoming Call" is displayed unless the contact is in your phonebook (again see above for matches)

np. You think something as universal as bluetooth should be simple to implement but as you can see, each manufacturer and cellphone carrier has their own way of doing things so you just have to figure it out.

I don't have that option in the menu in a 2013 Prius- (Package 4) bummer-can go to setup, phone, no details just refresh phone book, other 2 options about email & text are greyed out -with or without phone connected.
I guess i will never see caller ID on this car ever-It worked on the 2006 Prius with all phone- go figure!

The e-mail and text options depend on your phone. I don't believe any phone on the market supports both in the Prius (or at least with Toyota's Display Audio System for this generation).

I also don't see the option for phone Drop Down Menu for a 2013 Three. I was really hoping that would solve the issue of Waze always switching to the phone view to give me audio directions and interrupting my music (via SAT) so ungracefully.

That's because your 2013 Three uses the 6.1" Display Audio unit which has a different interface than the 7" screens.

Makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

Np. This was written before Toyota decided to introduce a 2nd audio head unit with different menus.
