Why is the small window below the rear spoiler so dark?

I went to a local dealership and sat in a Prius EV. Nice car. When I did a rear vision check I could delineate some objects behind the split glass/spoiler but was left wondering - "why do they need to make that split piece of glass darker? I think the tonneau cover was under that piece of smoked glass so I can't think it was for security purposes?

    Probably headlight glare.

Headlight glare is also my best guess. It does a pretty good job of limiting glare. The spoiler is also at just the right height for me to block most rear headlights so that I don't get bright lights shining in my eyes in the rear view mirror. Many ppl complain about this design, but I really appreciate it.

Thank you folks! That makes sense given that it's a flat pane of glass...at just the right angle! :)

My only complain for this glass is it's colour. It would be better if it could be better matched with rest of the windows. Maybe neutral gray? Colour aside - I like it. Except in winter (lot of salt on roads) where this part of rear window is just unusable.

I'm guessing it's in reference to a PiP.

My car was purchased from the dealership with dark tint already on it and that area is tinted as well. It's literally only useful during daylight hours. At night, I can't see anything out of it. It's not a major issue right now because I drive the highway at night but going out in the city and parallel parking would scare me into purchasing an aftermarket back up camera as I do not have one :(
