Just entered my 2012 PIP VIN on the Toyota "recall" site and comes up clean.

Should I assume PIP isn't part of the 1.9 million recalled?

Mine came up clean too.. the recall mentions something about the motor generator ECU.. the PiP's MG ECU is most likely different, so maybe its not included in the recall?

Hope so but hate to assume. Rav4 also had a recall today and my 2012 Rav shows it :( where PIP shows nothing :) .

PiP should be included. I have experienced the Fail-Safe mode a few days ago. I pulled over and rebooted and the car was fine.

Edit: it turned out to be a different issue. See post #51.

Then has anyone put their VIN in and seen the recall?

Recall notice supposedly shows "certain transistors in the IPM could become damaged when operating the vehicle under high-load driving conditions, such as accelerating during highway driving. If this occurs, various warning lamps on the instrument panel will illuminate."

Did this happen when you experienced your "Fail-Safe" mode and were you driving "under high-load conditions", whatever that means.

Recall does not show up in my Toyota Owners site. It is not listed but it happened to me.

The service center at the dealer I bought it from must be very busy. Service advisers forwarded my call to each other. The third one finally scheduled an appointment for this Sat.

There is no loaner cars given! I'll have to rent a car for $35 a day!

    Insurance might cover rental?

What does fail safe mode look and feel like?

    I think I was braking. I wouldn't say it was "high-load condition".

Traction control, ABS and Brake (in red) lights came on. It drove funny and the brakes were weak with no regen.

After the first reboot, the lights were still on, so I rebooted 2nd time and the lights went away. I then thought to see if there are any codes. Fired up Torque and checked. There were no Check Engine Light (CEL) code recorded. Perhaps, I should have checked while the lights were on.

USB, I know you dont have a "cheap" OBD2 adapter, but what you described is what happened to me (esp the braking with no regen).

I was also unable to pull any codes at all, which didnt make sense. However, after removing the OBD2 adapter, my problem went away and it has not come back. Also, my drive to work is anything BUT high-load. esp at the time the dash lit up like a Christmas tree.

My 2014 PiP didn't come up under the recall.

I put in the VIN to my 2012 PIP: "There are no open Safety Recalls or Special Service Campaigns for your vehicle."
Good news for me I guess...

Then your problem doesn't seem to be the issue THIS recall is referring to. Maybe you have some other issue Toyota needs to address?

We still need clarification as to whether or not today's recall impacts our PiP's or only regular Gen3 Prius's.

I did not have my Kiwi plugged in when it happened. I plugged it in after the 2nd restart.

So now, I wonder if yours was actually caused by the "cheap" OBD2 adapter.

I don't know. I may be regening toward the limit. If I was, the boost convert may be at "high-load condition". I just don't know because I wasn't paying attention. You may be right, that my PiP has different issue. I'll let them check it out and update you guys.
