Got my faceplate a couple days ago from JT Torres at Al & Ed's, and it looks great! I'm using it with the Highlander radio. Replacing the factory head unit with the Highlander head unit was ridiculously easy. The dash pieces pop off without tools, and the mounting brackets just use a standard phillips screwdriver. This is JT Torres's faceplate for reference:
Thank you. I guess a lot of guys are buying this radio.. That's cool. I'm working on video input for this radio, what if you could mirror your phone ? Is there any interest on this mod ?
wouldnt the video input basically be attaching a switch to the reverse wire to trigger the unit into turning the screen on and then simply switching the cam video into a phone video? but its always more complicated then it seems. ill be interested for the right price of course.
Wow, if i ever get a c this would be a great addition, I only wanted a II anyways and hated the cheap radio, dont see the extra money for nav that i wont use or alloys for my useage on the III
So if a navigation version of this radio is bought, what will need to be done to get the navigation to work or is it all built into the unit? Also how much is the faceplate kit and back up camera? Thanks
oh lol, I wrote up a guide with somewhat pretty pictures on the reverse camera thread but I guess here it is Dropbox - corolla-highlander radio backup camera.pdf
And in my quest to find the perfect backup camera, I also bought this camera E318 170ยบ Wide Angle Night Vision Car Rear View Reverse Backup Color Camera VE4A | eBay It's $11 or so, however it's shipped from china...so it'll take a good 3weeks to a month or so to get to the states, etc. I tested it to work on 6v with pretty good picture quality, so no relays or modifications needed at all, just the power from the HU will be enough to power it. I don't think there is a navigation version of the radio...The faceplate was $35 shipped (from jttores)...the backup camera harness is $40 or so shipped (or much much cheaper if you know how to attach wires to the 16pin harness...but I'm lazy so I'll just dish out the $40)...don't buy from beatsonic...they are way too overpriced, it's like $75 + $10 shipping and tax if you're in CA. Most of the install, I've explained step by step in my little guide for backup camera on the corolla/highlander touch screen radio
This is awesome, so many people have done this modification, now send me a dollar each, lol. When I first did it, I only did it because I didn't want to spend any money buying a radio even at my cost.
Is the plastic surround around the Corolla radio in post one from a Corolla. I actually wanted to put nav in my Prius C 2 but want to keep the stock looks and I still haven't seen a kit I like. I really like the looks of the Toyota radio and I can use a portable nav.
