key fob alarm, key exits the car leaving a keyless car running and unable to restart.

    Is there a modification or customization that will cause an alarm to sound when the key fob leaves the car and the engine is still running. This is a problem when someone with the key exits the car leaving a keyless car running and unable to restart.

    The car should beep 3 times when you exit and close the door while it's on.

    Clearly if you forgot your keyfob and then dropped off the wife who did have hers, then you won't be able to start the car later after you shut it down. A louder alarm might help.

    The problem with a potential modification that would shut off the car when the fob no longer communicates is that the car could shutoff anywhere while it was running assuming the fob battery failed. Of course you can usually use the key and the passive modes with the keyfob to restart, if you know how. Not sure it would be desirable to shutdown the vehicle when a fob failed, like when you are driving on the freeway or other critical scenarios.

    The thing to do is not leave the car running when you are not there OR to be sure to carry your own keyfob. Leaving a fob hidden in the car is not real good either since it disables the keyless locks.

    'someone'?:p if you make a habit of locking the doors after exiting the car, it will let you know if it's still on.

    My v definitely beeps 3 times if the Fob leaves the car while it is running.

    While at times inconvenient, I think you will find that any other strategy puts you at more risk. (In 5 years, I have driven without a key once)

    ... so there does not appear to be a computer preference available to activate the horn when the key leaves a running car... or any mod. Seems like the proliferation of keyless starting would have created a demand for a greater alarm. It is quite a simple event to separate the car and its life giving key.

    The current three beep warning does not stand out enough. The car beeps often with seatbelt warnings, reverse beeps and gear beeps.

    agreed with the proliferation of beeping. you'll also discover that when your down to your last pip of gas, and it starts blinking, you get one feeble beep, and then your on your own to get gas before you forget.
