Does your prius fart after 5mins of turning it off

yes I frequently nap in my car between jobs and sure enough it scares the poop out of me.

 

Sometimes it's a soft pffft and sometimes it's a loud HONKKKK!

 

It's a very human behavior, we do not appreciate our cars enough

 

Good Gawd I now have to worry about naughty behavior from my Prius?! Thought that stuff was done when the kids moved out!

I did like the reference to the space shuttle having her own "conversation" with herself (burping, whirring and farting) on being home... space travel must be hell for a spaceship....

With six versions of real horsepower in the side yard, a farting horse is a happy horse since they cannot burp/vomit and anything that goes in one end has to come out the other...

 

That would have been what the ex sounded like. A recliner that makes noises.

(I know, I am so going to Hell for that one. At least I know upper management down there... )

I do not know if to name it a" fart", but does make some weird noises some times

 

Yeppers - Normal to hear noise about five minutes after shutdown, then again at about five hours...

 

Ok humor aside, my 2013 prius does fart about 2 min after shutdown on RARE occasions; especially when it is near the freezing temp mark. Normally I hear mechanical noises every time after shutdown but then comes the fart afterwards during the very cold days.

No one believed me when I told them my Prius farts, including my best buddy who is technician at Toyota. However, one day my GF heard it after I shut off the car. She laughed her nice person off.

I also heard this same fart when I slammed on the brakes really hard to avoid a soccer ball rolling across the street. My best guess it that that fart is somehow connected to the braking system, perhaps the master cylinder. Maybe a valve is opening to let out the excess pressure?

 

It's the EVAP system.

 

I wouldn't say my Prius farts, but after I turn it off I do notice a buzzing noise that goes on for a few seconds. Then every now and then if I go outside to get something I'll hear it buzzing away for a short amount of time. That's probably the fuel system test I've been hearing about.

Mine does the whole buzz, thump, and hiss routine as everyone else's. You'll notice when you open the driver door after your car has been parked for at least 15 minutes, it'll make some of the same noises.

Ever since i heard the tron noises come out of the front of the car, i just call it a spaceship and associate almost any noises it makes with just being a spaceship. I think all of this gives the car a bit of character.

 

The more I read some of these replays the more I love my car just because it has way more character than my Camry, I like cars with character, I have only had mine a week and heard similar noises and just attributed it to the car being weird, but now I can tell the guys at school my car is just communicating with me after a long drive an see the reactions I get lol. I have always thought of my cars as having a personality now I confirm that with the Prius C

 

Between all of the different beeps, whirring, buzzing, thump, and now a fart noise... this is one noisy car!

 

Never anthropomorphize your car. ... They hate it when you do that.
