I wore a new pair of jeans today and noticed that they have turned my tan Softex leather in my new Prius blue! Has anyone here had this happen to them and do you have any helpful hints as to how I can fix this? What can I clean the softex seats with? I read about using mild soap and a damp cloth but I am afraid that will set the dye in even further. ???
no advice, sorry. but i have to wonder, if they are turning your softex blue, what are you absorbing into your bloodstream?
Oxyclean. But use a small wet vac too if possible such as: BISSELL GREEN Little Green® 1400 | Parts & Reviews | Portable Deep Cleaner BTW, with any cleaner you work with make sure to do a test spot first to ensure it doesn't bleach out/fade the fabric color. Good luck.
Can new jeans do this to the regular cloth seats in the Prius as well or is mainly the Softex susceptible to jeans paint absorbing into the seats? I was curious if the heated cloth seats on the PiP might have that issue with new jeans.
Yes. Fresh, deep blue denim can and will transfer the blue to all kinds of stuff. If they are "pre-faded", there should not be a problem.
This was a common complaint with light colored leathers from a number of automakers that was discussed in forums a few years ago. Maybe leather tanners have found a solution to this that needs to be applied to these new-fangled "vinyl" seats.
It not just jeans. I sit on an old towel to keep the dye from my pants from staining the chair. We stored some blue leather against white. The white is stained. There's a reason they make seat covers.
We had a good laugh at that over the holidays after this comment was suddenly blurted out: "Why are your hands blue?" New jeans are definitely a problem. And that's absolutely correct about the pre-faded. I haven't had any problem whatsoever with them on Softex.
