They did mine the day I picked it up but had me come back to do it again last saturday because they said the computer (I'm guessing thiers) said it didnt take, took about 45 min the second time. I havent noticed any changes at all so far, this one drives just like my 2012 and that didnt have any recall done on it that I'm aware of.

Not here. Been reported in the papers/internet. The dealers rang me a few days after this to arrange and was booked in within days and all sorted.

That's all good but I don 't think Toyota should rely on Social Media to broadcast an important recall. However, I guess it's the cheap way out and evidently effective.

The online PDF states that Toyota would be mailing letters to owners in mid February. It's now March and I don't think anyone has received a letter. Toyota really doesn't strike me as a company that is very with it.

The more they can accomplish without mailing every customer, the less money they'll have spend. They are relying on their networking instead of snail mail.

Well the official announcement came February 12th and it's March 6th. So not even a full month yet.

I am curious who will be lucky enough to actually get the hard copy letter. But I'm not too concerned.

My car took 12 days I believe on the ship so a letter would only take 3-4 days :)

That's what I'm thinking. Toyota USA is probably out of the loop pretty much.

I received a letter from Toyota today, and got all excited  that it would be the software recall notice (yes, I know you don't need it for the recall, but the letters should have been mailed out by now.) Turns out it was just a Toyota Financial Service Privacy notification. :(

Ok so I took mine in on the 2/25 and they called later in the day saying the inverter failed. Put me in a rental (a Sienna woohoo!) and said once they get the part it should take a couple days to replace.
Turns out the part is on national backorder so I still have the rental 9 days later with no estimated ship/completion date :(
Anyone else had this problem? Was the inverter what the recall was supposed to be for?

Where there any symptom before you took it in for the recall ? That's weird. Maybe you dodged the Golden BB and they found it before you got stranded on the side of the road.

No symptoms. I just took it in because I knew there was a recall. They said it should only take about an hour and a half. I'm guessing they broke it when they tried to fix it. Glad I didn't get stuck anywhere!

You wouldn't think a software flash would destroy the inverter but we'll probably never know.

My guess: You had an incipient failure.

The reported failure is cracks in the solder under the boost transistors. The transistors have temperature monitors, so there's a real good chance that a failing tranny would have higher temperatures, even if the cracks hadn't progressed to the point of knocking the part off the heatsink.

The recall says "inspection", which, really, cannot be done visually. They did their test; they found an inverter on its way out; and you're driving a courtesy car, exactly as expected. The national backorder: they're finding a significant number of inverters with cracks. All this is good stuff! They're catching faults before we do!

Yeah, maybe they inspected your inverter and determined it needs to be replaced. Luckily, the recall takes care of this although I don't know why it takes that long to get the part.

I hope they are storing your car well and safely.

Great explanation ! However, this gives rise to other concerns regarding life cycle of the inverter. Has it been shortened ? If visual inspection is not an option then the test must measure a specific resistance in the circuit where this transistor solder joint exists. I just hope that mine was in the more favorable upper and/or lower control limits of the test.

This is just a BS recall that means nothing. If you had never got it you would have never missed it.
