Lexus RX400H review needed (2nd or 3rd gen)

Nice! I think we are going the same route. Prius II for me and 400h for the lady.

 

The 13+ FFH has a completely different drive train, the smaller engine is actually working quite well. Since this system is mixed ICE/EV up to 85 MPH, it doesnt need the larger engine. The larger engine is more efficient at highway speeds, no replacement for displacement theory. The smaller one, when working properly, drives the generator, which provides the power for the main traction motor at all speeds, and is coupled to the traction motor when more power is called for.

Its a totally different drive too, you have to unlearn some techniques used in the first gen FFH and the HSD cars, and learn some new ones. Because the car relies heavily on the battery pack, regen braking is key to good MPG. The more 100% scores you get, the better your MPG will be. It does not like cold weather though and suffers more than the first Gen and HSD, below 32* its tough to get 40 MPG, but in 40* getting 47 is easy.

 

I'm not sure what kinda driving conditions you guys are in, but here are my RX400h numbers after driving it for 3 years.

Me - 33mpg normal mixed driving, 38mpg in the city
Wife - 28mpg normal mixed driving, she drives the car harder

Nothing to complain about, the space and the power of a V8 yet fuel economy of a 4 cyl
