    Hi All,

Following a link http://priuschat.com/threads/78412/ I found a procedure for getting into the MFD Diagnostics Menu. I guess that applies to US Market models in English...

On my '08 Right-Hand-Drive JDM model it's about same as described, but harder to follow if you can't read Japaenese.

Here's the procedure I found to work on the Japanese display:

    1. Parking brake ON, HSD in Park.
    2. Foot OFF brake pedal.
    3. Press Main POWER button -> ACC mode. Power button light on, MFD on, Speed display etc off.
    4. On the HSD Display (with pictures of I.C.E., E. Motor, Battery, etc and power flow lines)
    5. Press the Economy Display on-screen button. (Lower Left corner of display on my JDM model.)
    6. Screen changes to the Economy Bar Graphs screen with grid (as per original instructions).
    7. Press the Top Left hand (physical) MFD console button. (Sounds like it's the same position on the US model, I just don't know what the japanese says...) Remember mine is the RHD model, though of course all JDM models are, I guess.
    8. This brings up a "Display Adjust Menu" which overlays the outside of the screen with a new border. Similar to image shown in original instructions.)
    9. Now press the Top then Bottom LH corner squares of the grid 3 times in succession.
    10. A Diagnostic Menu appears. I think at this time, a relay can be heard to click somewhere in the dash.
    11. After about 10 seconds, this display changes, and reports 3 Blue "OK" boxes which seem to indicate the tests passed.

From here, I need help. The available Menus are extensive, but I have no idea what they are.

As you'll see, on that first screen, which is also available in one of the sub-menus, you'll see the letters EMV, H/U and ECU, but that's as much as I can understand.

Here are some photos, though unfortunately, my camera battery ran out right in the middle...

This is the first screen (after the Blue OK boxes are displayed). I think the bottom row of buttons brighten up after the OKs appear. Don't know what it's doing or how much battery drain it causes, so didn't repeat it too many times to check things like that. The Top RH button I think takes you ("back") to the Main Menu:

Images etc deleted to reclaim data quota...

Okay, got those photos posted. Now:

Of course, I have many questions, apart from "What do these screens say...?"

Does anyone know what EMV stands for? I see many references to LAN Monitor EMV, but haven't yet found what it might mean.

Also, I read somewhere here that it is possible to Update the Flash ROM in various ECUs. Is it possible to re-Flash a JDM model MFD with English ROMs, does anyone know?

    Cheers,
    Al

    Hi again,

Now I know what EMV means. Electro Multi-Vision!!!

    Glossary

    So, EMV = MFD.

Though, "LAN Monitor MFD" doesn't make good sense. I guess it really means MFD LAN Monitor.

Also, found this link, which is very helpful
Prius 2nd Gen - Repairing the Multi-function Display

Also can now relate (I guess) many of the Japanese labels to the English functions.

Still keen to know about Flashing new ROM versions though.

I see the phrase Electro Multi-Vision only appears in one other place on Prius Chat, so let me add a few keywords to aid others in finding this...

EMV means, what does EMV stand for, meaning of EMV, what is EMV, EMV acronym, the letters EMV, EMV Display, electro multi vision, electro-multi vision, electro-multi-vision, Multifunction Display, multi function

I have a Prius manufactured in September 2005. I am considering buying a lockpic 3 for backup camera. How do I know if my MFD is 2005 model (analog, RGB) or 2006 model (digital)?

I had a 2005 then traded that in for a 2006. As I understood not all 2006s were with the higher definition screen. I don't recall a discussion concerning going from analog to digital.

Thank you! ... I am still trying to figure out how to find out if I have a RGB or a GVIF MFD in order to know what type of lockpick to buy :)
