Added an aftermarket front nav/DVD player as well as a 10 inch overhead screen and two DVD/headrest monitors. Now everyone in the back & front seats are happily entertained.

What brand overhead did you get? I'm thinking of getting one.

Did you have a shop install the headrest monitors or did you do them yourself?

Hi Peter. It's a Power Acoustic overhead 10.2 inch DVD monitor installed by a shop. Definitely consider about purchasing one. There is a DVD slot built into the unit. Good luck on your decision.

If you did get a monitor, i would make sure it has a usb input as well, and can play divx and mp4 videos. So nice, to just load up a 32gb usb drive with movies and let the kid watch what he wants. I'm considering one as well, but thinking of an LED backlit unit instead, pricier, but better from side angles and in sunlight, supposedly.

Are the monitors that far out of sync?? Shows them at a table on the left, and the DVD unit and overhead are matching.

One of them has to not match the sound, that would drive me crazy.

Lol, good observation. They are not matched. You need an "FM modulator" for that which I didn't purchase. The in dash system & overhead are in sync but headrests have their own individual headphones.

Are those drop in headrest replacements or did they cut up your existing head rests?

No, should just be a USB drive or SD card slot. At least, i converted all my dvd's to digital format. 1 USB stick holds like 100 movies. Comes in handy on long road trips.

Does your factory audio work with any of the monitors u added? And if u had to pick between the headrests or drop down, which would u recommend. And is your rearview impaired by the drop down? I am leaning towards a basic 10.2" drop down at Fry's with RCA and USB inputs (no DVD) and built in FM modulator, and I feel like I might regret not getting the built in DVD player, or going the headrest route. Help!

There's a reason why you can't easily buy a luxury vehicle with DVD dropdowns or headrest monitors anymore... They are obsolete. They do have cars with tablet (or more accurately "slate") straps on the monitors but that's all you need.

I'm with you on that, i'm looking to buy one with a media card/USB reader and HDMI input for xbox.

I currently have a tablet mount for my Nexus 7. Works great for my son, but i'd rather not leave the tablet mounted there, prefer something a bit more integrated and professional. Cost is not really a factor as a decent tablet is about $150, and a flip down monitor is about the same $150. Flip down monitor would also deter thieves.
