4th generation coming 2015!

    Well, NS4 is supposed to be a dedicated PHV. Perhaps, Toyota will have two difference MG2 specs for regular Prius and the plugin.

    Almost May. They announced in May 2008 that there was a "short year" for a 2009 model. Mid 2009 the Gen III came out (and I thin the release was in the fall).

    Will this repeat? Is there a short year 2015 rollover?

    This new info and speculation has me pretty excited for the new Gen IV. It sounds like we can expect more performance and higher mpgs. Sounds like a winning formula to me.

    Got tired of waiting for PIP market expansion and bought a Leaf to go with our '10 Prius.

    That was your sale, Toyota, if only you sold PiPs in middle America.

    Now patiently waiting for the next gen to see what new PiP offers. It is good to have choices.

    I also have been waiting for the Gen4 as my Prius (2004 at 256k miles) is aging (uses oil 1qt/2k miles) and our second car (2001 Jetta) is also getting old. If Toyota comes through with an AWD Prius, that will be our next car. If not, I will have to compromise and get a Subaru.

    JeffD, how's your Gen II holding up? How many inverter and battery replacements?

    If all rumors are true I can definitely say I'd be going from a 2010 Prius Gen III to a Gen IV 2015 Plugin ;)

    The target costumer of Prius is changing through the years, the ones who bought gen 1 and gen 2 will likely migrate to EV. So PiP with Volt like capabilities is a must if Toyota wants to retain that customers.

    Off topic, but other than oil usage (common at higher mileage) and a replacement HV battery at 195k miles ($1600-Reinvolt plus $400-Toyota dealer install minus $700 resale of 27 balanced old modules so $1300 cost), this has been a great car. Inverters seldom fail if not overheated or reverse polarity jumps so that has not been an issue. I also refresh my ATF every 60k miles to help insure that the tranny (PSD) lives for the "life" of my Prius.

    One of the good things about the Prius is its reliability !
    The 2 clutch transmission VW uses is near enough allways in trouble .
    Its the exact opposite of reliability !

    DSG works fine for magazines (testing brand new cars), that's enough for some less advised consumers.

    Spyshots: 2016 Chevy Volt Spied in Detail

    Hmm, May now to be released at the end of the year next year as a 2016 model.

    Spyshots for the 4th gen came out May last year to be released at the end of this year or early next year?

    I've heard several different stories about the Volt 2.0.

    One is the wedge shape to increase aero, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Volt maybe got 45mpg or 48mpg in hybrid mode.

    Then there's also two of them being released, a high level executive saying that people don't really need more than 30 miles EV. So if they have a 25 mile version and a 50 EV version (5 seater vs 4) - it'd be interesting to see vs the PiP. PiP is targeted to have a 15 mile range which now brings it into the territory of the lower level Volt considering the figures.

    Right now at 11 miles supposed EV, a good amount of people get 15 EV, some 17, at 5 more we can see into the 20s.

    Let Toyota be the efficient EV vehicles too ;) I don't think there'll be two types of PiP though...

    Can't wait for more info!

    Been almost 5 years since Gen 3 first arrived for sale in Bay Area. Saw it the first day it arrived at Piercey Toyota Milpitas which was pretty close to May 20th or 25th. Remember was in middle of putting extender brackets on used driver's seat for my 2009 Prius.

    Wow, so you got a 2nd Gen Prius 2009 then upgraded fast. Was 2009 your first entry in and the Gen III was impressive enough to upgrade?

    I picked up my 2010 on May 25 2009. almost 5 years ago and 170,000 miles. Before that I had a 2007 that I picked up in September of 2006.

    I bought the first 2009 arrival in August 2008, had it 2 yrs 4 months. Bought 2011 Prius Nov 2011, but had a short stint with Accord coupe in between. Gen III is much better for tall person, but in my opinion, it's not quite (technically) correct driver's seating position for very tall individuals (over 6 ft. or so). Seat too tilted back and wheel bit far away, so it's livable but little funky.

    When I looked again at the sketch to see what the "carbon-fiber like thing" was, I noticed the notation "no fly bridge."

    I know we each have our preferences, and I am comfortable with that, but I do not understand why so many dislike the "fly-bridge." It's not like any other design is going to provide additional leg room, or a third front seat.

    I like the "bridge" and use it for additional storage for items not put into the "glove box." But I really like the position of the "shifter" (for want of a better term). It falls perfectly under hand. Living in the mountains, I frequently use the "engine brake" and can do so without even looking. On a long drive, I frequently rest my hand on the "bridge." I recognize that it will in all probability not be included on the G4 .... but I for one, will miss it.
