. . . is a funfun little car! All that gadgets though, gosh. This site has been so valuable. My last car was/is a 1996 Honda Accord, standard transmission. I bought her new, and I'm having a hard time letting go of her 285,000 miles later. Great, great car (Blanca) looking for a new home.

Anyway, I bought my little Prius -- Oona -- on the 12th of April, and five days later I was rear-ended! She's been rear-ended and repaired, and I still don't even have her permanent tags. I will say this: I took a good hit, stopped at a stoplight, by a big Volvo SUV. Cracked up the bumper, and the crumple zones underneath were damaged, but here's what isn't damaged: me and the car's frame. I've been rear-ended like this a few times before, and even with no car damage, I've had a sore neck for a few days. Not in Oona! I'm very impressed with the engineering in such a little car.

I'm also getting 50-60 mpg. Small neighborhood trips often get me into the 70 mpg range. I'm looking forward to learning to work everything, plus finding seat covers and other little accessories.

  2. Yikes... (n) (I mean about getting into an accident so soon after you bought it... Is it just me or do people really use the Prius c for target practice?)

Glad you got yours repaired so quickly. So was it at specifically a Toyota dealership? I have no idea if there are any long-term issues after a rear collision even after repairs.

No, just went with my insurance company's certified repair company. They did a terrific job, and she's driving just as well as before her injury. Can't tell anything ever happened. Lucky!

  4. If it was me in your situation, I would be extremely OCD about "long-term consequences" so for my sake I would take it to a certified/dedicated Toyota dealership. Since you mentioned impact on the crumple zones, it wouldn't hurt to have a second set of hands just to let them know what happened and look everything over extra carefully.

Either way, glad your car is running like new again (y) Those freak incidents can really surprise you.
