Just purchased my '06 with 117k, service recommendations?

    Hello! I'm truly a newb to the forum, but I am picking up my 2006 Prius this weekend.

    The car looks immaculate, and it's loaded. I think it has Package #8.

    A couple of questions.

    1. Is there a way to see what service has been done at a Toyota dealer?

    2. What service recommendations do you have? Things to check, and things to change, things to help maintain its pristine condition, etc.

    Anyway, first thing that comes to mind: if you can get the service history, see if the transaxle fluid has ever been changed. If not, or if it's not determinable, that's very worthwhile to do.

    Thanks for the tips. I was able to add the car to my 'Toyota Owners' profile (by the way, great app!), and it looks like the previous owners have meticulously had this car serviced at a Toyota dealer.

    On a service date last May, it shows a 'transaxle service', which I assume is the changing of the fluid?

    Also, at the same visit, they: changed the engine coolant fluid and inverter coolant, replaced the water pump and drive belt. Along with the typical LOF.

    Looks to me like this thing was pampered like I would want!

    It was originally purchased in CA, currently in VA. I pick it up on Saturday.

    How could you tell it was a CA car? Also curious, what are the differences?

    There are expired California carpool access stickers on the bumper. Once the car is registered outside CA, the CARB warranty no longer would apply from CA.

    Got it. Thanks. I assume you refer to the 150,000 mile warranty on the hybrid-battery for CA cars?

    Could be, unfortunate it's not more specific. With 3rd gen, and I'm betting 2nd gen is same: Toyota says to never change the fluid. Transaxle "service" consists of checking the fluid level, looking for leaks.

    If you could get in touch with dealership that serviced it, and see what that service entailed in more detail, ie: was there a charge for multiple bottles of the transaxle fluid? I believe it's Toyota ATF-WS fluid for second gen, sim to 3rd.

    Thanks for the tip - I'll call the dealer in the next couple of days to check that. If the transaxle needs a fluid change is that a reasonable 'do-it-yourself' job, or is it better to have dealer perform?

    Also, I've seen a number of threads on this topic, but none seemed to address my particular circumstance.

    The car is an '06. I'm not sure if the Nav system has ever been updated. What is the best way for me to go about updating? I know I can buy a Garmin, but I've never owned a vehicle with integrated Nav, and I would really like to use the on-board system.

    Any tips for me? Again, is this a DIY project?

    If the paperwork says "transaxle service", that would mean it got a fluid change. There is no way to check the level of the transaxle fluid, there isn't a dipstick, either it's full or not full. If they are checking for leaks, it wouldn't be consider a "transaxle service".

    To update the Nav system, you can order an updated DVD on Ebay. Very simple to install. Instructions on Google. :)
