Although I have no problem changing a tire, I'm a bit relieved that I have roadside assistance and won't have to worry about kneeling on the ground if it happens.

I appreciate the pics. I tried this today with my Corolla donut. Just over half of it seems to fit into the hole. I might get a neat carrier bag for mine. Thanks for the idea.

 

Less than a month ago. Sheetrock screw in the tread. I was in a suit and I stepped out of the office to attend a family friend's naturalization ceremony. Found the flat tire on exiting the ceremony building. Would have been pretty delayed getting back to the office if not for the donut in the back. As it was, took about 15 minutes (or less) to flip the donut for the damaged wheel.

 

Although I do have on-call assistance, it is always a trade-off for time. Sometimes the weather is nice and I have a spare cigar in the car and am not pressured to be somewhere else so I can afford to wait... and the other 99% of the time I'd rather take the 15 minutes, change the thing and move out smartly.

When I was 19, I could afford to wait and burn time... but I couldn't afford luxuries like roadside assistance. Today, I can afford roadside assistance but don't have the time available to burn on waiting for it unless it's a real emergency like a traction battery lithium fire , not a silly flat tire.

Tires can be changed without anything but the soles of our shoes touching the ground for the average person amongst us.

 

If you ever have a traction battery lithium fire, I doubt anything could save your car. The Prius isn't built like a Tesla, which has a 1/4" steel plate on the bottom, and steel containment barriers between banks of cells. It also has substantial shielding between the battery and passenger compartments.

There's only a thin metal shield over the battery pack, separating it from the passenger compartment. The good news is that it's very unlikely for something to rupture the Prius battery pack, causing a fire, due to it's location.

 

It's a non-issue. The odds of rupturing the gas tank are much higher, and that certainly hasn't been a problem or even a concern.

 

If the work of TV's Mythbusters has any value, it's actually quite hard to make a gasoline tank explode from any sort of impact.

 

Rupture means leak, then fire.

 

It happens unfortunately, but it's over dramatized in movies.

 

Note the Winky Smiley in my post right after the "if I ever have a real emergency like a traction lithium battery fire" statement.

 

I would love to have an additional Secure Digital SD Card slot along the USB port:

1. The USB drive usually sticks out and is more prone to break the USB port.
2. Both, USB and SD, would provide an easily selectable music source. USB/SD => His/Hers
3. CD/DVD drives are pretty much obsolete now. EU version doesn't support DVDs at all, and not many MP3/WMA will fit on 700MB CD-R.
4. It is less distracting to use voice command to select music album from central store on USB/SD, than to change CD discs while driving.

Please tell me where the mute is on the base model PIP navigation. I see the volume, but I have to push that once, then move my finger to the right and push another three times to stop the sound. This is two more pushes than Option/Stop Navigation.

 

never use it, but i think if you hold the mode button on the steering wheel?

 

I had one like this... Unfortunately, one day it decided to quit working. Amazon had none left in the stock thus I got a refund.
