Whilst attempting to put air in a tyre I smelt one of those electrical smells when you know something ain't right, the air compressor plug had melted in the socket and obviously turned of the compressor off, I have checked all the fuses and some how all the fuses are fine but I've also lost all volume from the audio system, everything else works fine, any ideas?

How do you know the fuses are fine? Did you use an ohmmeter to verify continuity? Do not rely upon visual inspection.

Regarding the audio system in particular, check the following fuses: 10A GAUGE, 15A DOME, 15A ECU-B, 7.5A ECU-IG, 7.5A ACC, 30A AMP.

If the power outlets are no longer working, check the 15A PWR OUTLET FR and the 15A PWR OUTLET fuses.

Patrick, for some reason I was in my car this morning and the audio burst on on high volume without me touching it, scared the life out of me, nearly put my car in a hedge, I have swapped all the 15amp fuses just incase I was reading the display wrong but still no outlet power

Try the other 12V power outlet. You may have damaged the outlet that the air compressor was plugged into.

If you must use an air compressor that runs off 12V power, buy one that connects directly to the battery terminals via clips. The ones that plug into the power outlets are really toys and as you learned, can cause damage to the car's wiring.

Have you looked in the center console between the two front seats? At least with North American models, another 12V power outlet can be found there.

The UK models definitely have only one power outlet, and it is located within the centre console storage area.

I have 2 (2009 Gen II LHD European mainland)

One in the centre console, one covered by a lid near the left knee of the passenger.
