So I just changed my transmission fluid to Amsoil today. I will post any improvements once I get a couple of miles on her. No I'm not worried about the insulation on the windings. I emailed Amsoil and they told me it will not cause any problems with my windings and if it does they will take responsibility for any damages.

    I wish you well.

It is not a place where I would play chemist for $5000, but I do wish you well.

I'd be more than happy to have amsoil buy me a new transmission if this goes south. But really does anyone have any more than one inconclusive data point indicating there's an issue with amsoil.

I would miss my car (and my clients) for the weeks to get a new transmission from Japan. No thanks.

But the good news is that it is your risk, not mine.

Are you trying to fix a problem that never existed?

Non Prius owners worry about the battery, actual Prius owners worry about the expensive bits. Wait until you suggest jumpstarting your Prius all summer.

What does that even mean (it uses ac to get it started). I should have known better than to go online and try to volunteer some information that might help out some other people. All these people chime in with there nontechnical based opinions typing away at their cheeto infested keyboards. I'm a mechanical engine with multiple patents. I know what I'm dealing with here and I'm willing to take the risk. Worse case, I'll have it out with amsoil to buy me a new transmission. So maybe instead of wallering in your ignorance you should perhaps supply either a technically justified input or just read the post and not say anything if you have no idea what you're taking about.

Did Amsoil give you this transmission replacement guarantee in writing? Can you post it?

No need to get defensive, you are taking a risk but at least you appear to be aware of what you are gambling with.

This road has been traveled before: A couple of WS Alternatives. | PriusChat
The machines has become self aware.....and they prefer Amsoil.

He may not be able to spell engineer, but by gum, he is one!

Dorosko, we see a great many posters who advertise snake oil products in their first post, we are used to it. Can you list the benefits of leaving the factory recommended ATF WS behind?

OK, you claim to be a mechanical engineer w/ multiple patents. However, have you done any research / analysis on the effect of Amsoil vs. the electrical insulation of the MV1 / MV2 windings. If you have, has your testing been done over both a short term (weeks) and long term (1yr+) with constant data results. Have these results been presented in the form of a white paper and /or presentation along w/ peer review?

If the above is true, could we see the published results.

If not, your statement made holds very little water. You are in the area of pushing the boundary of material science.

Hey Dorosko, A well informed person like yourself , you think would be more informed with facts about your choice of ATF fluid. Instead you have lost your cool.
Take a deep breath and show us all some results of your findings.
Otherwise, I would say you are immature .
    From a impartial observer,

why would you even bother using am soil? what improvements are you hoping for and why do you think there will be improvements?

Nothing will happen to your trans except long life. Amsoil makes a quality product. For all intents and purposes this transmission is a manual gearbox and only requires a Group 5 quality decision. Been arguing with these folks about this for 7 years now so don't feel bad.

For some strange reason its really important to them that they believe this is a very special transmission and requires only WS fluid even though the owners manual states "OR USE EQUIVALENT." Can you imagine if it really was a special fluid and required strict maintenance procedures and use of only WS? Nothing else.
How hard would the dealer rump you on that one? There would be non stop talk of that instead the dealer scratches his head when you ask about trans maintenance.

You will never hear any technically justified input only watch out the boogey man's coming. Been waiting on that man for 7 years now.
Meanwhile my transmission see's virtually no wear.

There core argument is the fluid must be windings friendly and contains some dielectric properties as the windings require this.
First of all there is no transmission fluid made that has dielectric properties. Why would there be the second there's some tiny metal wear in solution you know the stuff that makes the fluid dark and conductive your dielectric argument goes out the window.
No one's every answered that for me.

    Watch out he's coming!!!!!

Poor Ed been arguing this for 7 years and his best argument is "Why Not?"

No benefits to anything else, no reasons to avoid Toyota's recommended fluid, just "Why Not?"

From what I have read on Priuschat, some of the Prius cars can put on a lot of miles(200k plus without any ATF fluid change)
I think it depends on how they are driven, as one possibility of premature failure .
    Not including Taxi's
On my Gen 2 I bought this spring with 144k, the ATF was never changed.
So I decided to stay with what the car was use too when I changed the ATF fluid, WS.
If I was to buy a newer Prius, I would stay with WS, because I think that on Prisuschat,
    WS wins hands down .
Hey, call me a sucker, but I put a lot of faith on what I read on Priuschat,
Especially if it is unanimous .
