    Hi all:

I have searched the forum and the web for the answer to this and have not had any luck. My Gen II appears to need a new HV battery and I am trying to decide between a OEM dealership battery ($3K installed) and refurbished battery with new processor ($2,750). The refurb comes with a three year unlimited mile warranty. Does anyone know if Toyota warrants the OEM's for another 100K?

    Thanks in advance!

So, dealership tells me new HV battery is warranted for one year only... :/
    Seems silly to me.

The warranty does not determine how long it will last. The smart money is on a new Toyota battery.

For almost the same amount of money, new battery wins hands down.

I am now being told that the remanufactured battery (Dorman) is a better product than the Toyota OEM. Remanufactured meaning all new components, only a used casing. Really on the fence about what to do here.

A remanufactured battery is NOT better than new. It's a re-balanced battery pack, using used modules. If you don't plan to keep your car for more than 3 - 5 years, a Dorman battery may be an acceptable option. But the cost is not like it's a $1000 savings. If you can save $1000, I would say you might take a chance, but less than $1000 savings, why get used?

Please tell us what state you live in, miles on car, model year, etc so we can understand if CARB warranty might be in force.
Also we might know cheaper places to take it.

Thanks JC91006. WJTracy: I am not in a CARB state (KY). My 2006 has about 126K miles on it.

Yes see what Toyota says...your case is very similar to the case in Maryland.
However, MD is a CARB state and I am wondering if the MD person actually had some valid warranty claim....she was under 100k miles also.
It's not clear to me why Toyota gives some folks 50% off....but ask nice and see what happens.

You are semi-close to the home of Dorman formerly re-involt.com in Sanford NC Taylor Automotive. Check out the re-involt.com website and see if you can get a better quote from Taylor or a shop closer to you (I see none in KY proper).

I say NEW, b/c the difference is small ($250), based on the OP's numbers.

$3k new, 1 year warranty, but you got 120k miles in 8 years. NEW battery would also be a good resale point.
$2750 used, 3 year warranty; How likely would a rebuilt go 120k miles?

I am skeptical if Doorman supplies a new HV control module with their rebuilt battery packs. Its a $533 part online at Camelback.

Another option to consider is sell the car as is (less $2750-$3k), or trade in?

New OEM HV installed today. $2935 installed. Hope to get another 100K out of it. Decided on OEM based on potential sale of car later. Despite all the research I did on remanufactured, the average consumer is not going to understand.

I think I made the right decision for less than $200.00 more....

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

This was actually the price from the dealer. Battery was approximately $2500 plus labor for a total of $2935 installed.

We received other quotes to install remanufactured batteries for around $2750

I am but plan is to buy from there and have it shipped this way. We ain't got these batteries on sale over here. Has to be bought there and couriered down here. That's why I needed just the cost of the battery and not be bothered about workmanship, dealer's discount or whatever as these aren't gonna be applicable in my case. Hope that clarifies...

you got a good price from Toyota! and Dorman option doesn't seem to make sense if alls you save is $200.
