Maybe I better buy one before I move out of the state. :| Although I'm guessing I could always acquire one used off ebay, no matter where I live.

Wikipedia is not the source of ultimate truth. Apparently, the PiP is now also available in Texas. I am sure that this is completely unrelated to Toyota moving their US HQ from California to Texas.;)

I just hope they won't stop making the PiP altogether - once Toyota starts trying to push hydrogen vehicles on us. I mean after all - as long as we have a much better alternative to FC's - no one's going to want a vehicle that you can only refill in 3 or 4 spots in the entire state.

Officially, they are only available in 15 states. They will be rolled out nationwide by July of 2013, oops, scratch that, by the end of 2013..., oops, scratch that.
You can order one from a CA dealer, or find a dealer who has an arrangement with a dealer that is selling them.
That is how a couple MN owners I know got theirs.

With all the downplaying of plugins by Toyota, I would not be surprised to see them pull the plug on the PiP if they can manage to sell a few Hydrogen cars next year.

While Toyota clearly is not interested in BEVs (the Rav4 EV in California has been cancelled), what have they said that indicates that they are losing interest in plug-in hybrids, which are pretty much just a very minor tweak to their extremely successful hybrid technology?

Comments about the inconvenience of plugging in, over the top Lexus commercials bemoaning plugging a car in.
Statements indicating the PiP would be rolled out nationwide last summer and again by the end of last year, yet failing to do so.

I wonder about how having to drive 100 miles to find a hydrogen fueling station would fit into their strategy? Are those ads specifically saying that plugging in is inconvenient, or are they talking about how long fueling takes compared to a gasoline (or hydrogen) station when that is your only source of fuel?

I agree that their deathly silence about rollouts in other states does not bode well.

Charles- Did you hear that TX actually has PiP's? I may have predicted they might get PiP's but I have not heard that for sure. TX does have a new $2500 rebate on PiPs if and only if bought in TX, but I did not hear yet they actually had some.

The15 PiP states in WikiP are correct by me. Of course, others get them by going to one of those states.

I found some ads by Texas Toyota dealers advertising the Plug-in (Toyota Prius Plug-in in Houston, TX | Sterling McCall Toyota). But that may a case of those dealers taking it on themselves to acquire them from a dealer in one of the 15 official states. Apparently Toyota does not object to their dealers doing this.

The PiP is also available in Vancouver, Canada, where I got mine. You'll just need to wait 3-4 months...

The Rav4 EV isn't cancelled. I'm still selling these like proverbial hotcakes.

They must be picking them up, they don't show any in inventory.

I guess I mis-stated it. While the Rav4EV is still being sold, I read that Toyota has announced that it will be cancelled. Like no more after this model year, I think? If I misunderstood what I read, please correct me!

another mark against Toyota in that they would allow Chevy Volts - Ford plug-ins, etc to capture all of the rebate money

It would be seen as "inferior" if Honda and Ford and Chevrolet and Hyundai and Kia offered plugin hybrids, but Toyota did not. I doubt the company will take that route.

This way, you can pay sales/use taxes and registrations in both states. I know CA needs the money.
One of my friends recently bought one in AZ through some similar process.

...we 'll leave the lights on for you, and you can get your PiP here for only 4% state sales tax (but don't ask me local tax until I know if yer NoVa or not).

Have mine 3 weeks now. Ordered it originally last week in Nov 2013, it arrived at dealer in mid Feb 2014. Took it for a test drive. Dealer damaged it whilst getting it prepped. Apparently dropped the shop door on it. Told them to order me another one. Finally received it May 15th. What a wait !
