My 2004 Prius got backed into. The new paint job makes the repainted door look darker than the rest of the car. Is that normal or a bad paint job?

It can be really tough to match paint. Even if they perfectly mix the spec'd color, your paint may have faded with time and sunlight. Our bodywork guy (and we're frequent customers, lol) is pretty cognisant of these factors, and also does tricks like feathering out the color into adjacent, non-damage zone, so any transition is less obvious.

Can you post a pic in sunlight?

It may have been the angle you were looking at it but it also could be a mismatch. The silver of 2004-2005 was Millennium Silver Metallic (1C0) and the silver of 2006-2009 was Classic Silver Metallic (1F7), these are two different shades of silver. Your door could have been painted with Classic Silver and thus the color difference compared to the rest of the car

I am perplexed because when I went out to take a photo it looked perfectly fine. o_O
I'll check again tomorrow when the sun is out (fingers crossed).

Light angle & intensity make all the difference. There will be some difference between the painted metal & the painted plastic. The paint should have been feathered into the adjoining panels.

The paint will look different in different light settings and angles, this is normal for metallic paint.
