Hey Nav, shut up please!

Yep, I think that's it. Today when I tried unsuccessfully to say Pause Guidance it gave me a menu on screen of possible commands. Under Navigation, there seemed to be nothing at all that would stop or pause the Navi! Could they have removed that functionality from the voice commands?? It's still available on-screen with a couple of pokes through the menus. But often, if you're trying to get the Navi-voice to shut up it's because you're in a complex driving situation where you can't safely poke through on-screen menus.

Hmmm, I've read of others having issues with Entune here. As I've stated, my Prius has the older system, but it seems to be a step backwards if they remove useful voice commands.

Maybe one day I'll be in that boat too. I plan to stay with this car for several years yet, and the way options get bundled, likely I'd have another with a factory navigation system rather than use my iPhone or a Tom Tom etc., but who knows? The voice commands with guidance using either Apple maps or Google really is great. I can just press the home button on the iPhone and it asks me what I want through the Prius speakers, I answer it through the Prius microphone something like driving directions from here to so and so in my contacts list.... it will go in there and find their address and start navigation right away. Interrupts whatever audio source I've got going to say 'turn left on main street etc.' works great.

Wow, that sounds like nice integration with the iPhone. I've been pretty disappointed in the way I can't really use Google Nav on Android with the Prius, because when the phone is paired over Bluetooth, as it normally is, it truncates the audio directions from Google Nav.
(My earlier thread on that topic:
Google Nav from Android - directions get truncated over Bluetooth | PriusChat )
The Soundabout Android app is a partial fix, but then you wind up with annoying known issues like having all the directions spoken twice.
I wasn't expecting much from the built-in Nav, but when I found that it makes Google Nav mostly useless, figured I'd try to use the built-in as much as possible.

It is pretty helpful and works well.

I'd have to guess that it is something that Apple is doing that makes the difference. My iPhone 5s with current firmware is certainly newer than my Prius, which although a 2010, was built and purchased by me in July 2009, making it an early 2010 ATP.

I do have a Bluetooth lag, but it really is only something I notice the odd time that I play a video on the iPhone while waiting inside the car while someone else takes their time in the shopping store. The movement of a speakers lips and the soundtrack heard over the car's multimedia system is out of synch.

Just bought a 6ft. 3 1/2 to 3 1/2 extension I can use to plug the headphone out from the iPhone into the car's jack in the bottom back of the center console. Haven't used it yet, but as I like to place the iPhone on the lip of the navscreen whenever I've watched video on it, with the nav display turned off, it was too far for old 3 foot cable to reach.

Shows you my car is an early model, think the 3 1/2 input didn't make it all the way through the 2010 model year before it was updated to a USB plug jack. No biggy, I find USB jacks can sometimes fail after too much use... less likely with the old 3 1/2 imho.

Hopefully with this new Android 'L' version, and Google's continued commitment to Android in the car, things will improve for you. But as to whether or not you even get offered an update for your current phone is another issue;...

Hmm, yeah, the 3.5mm Aux jack is still there, along with the USB. I haven't gotten around to trying that, i.e. how it would interact if phone is plugged into Aux and BT is also on (which I'd like to keep on, for phone calls and Pandora.) Somehow I doubt it'll all work, but it's worth a shot!

It depends. Toyota still has the Denso unit that you and I use, Roland. It's available on the Prius w/ Technology Package (or in the U.S., Four w/ Deluxe Solar Roof or Five w/ AT). It's a hard drive unit with DVD-playback and backup camera guide lines/boxes.

Same problem here with a brand 2014 Prius running Entune. There should be an easy one touch or voice activated way to get OUT of nav but there doesn't seem to be. I will try Stop Guidance today. My preferred command would be Exit Navigation but that tries to take me to someplace in Texas. An X on the screen would also work well. Pressing Options and Stop Guidance is too complicated IMHO for a system that is supposed to be easy touch and voice activated while driving. The dealer suggested the back button which does nothing to stop the guidance. I do love my Prius but this is something that bugs me and I wish they would fix it.

As to why we would run navigation to go home - it can be helpful in a complicated area (like north of Detroit) to have it get me back to familiar roads. And yes, I could just let it run all the way back but I don't need it then and would like an easy way to make it stop. I have the same sort of problem if I want it to change to a different destination.

There is a doc here but it doesn't have a command list: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omnav/OM47719U/pdf/06.pdf
