I just purchased my Prius 2 days ago. I knew that they were going to push the extended warranty and I wanted to see how much they wanted. I knew that I was going to buy from Troy even if they offered me the same deal. I really wanted to support PC because of all the help I have received. The Salesperson said that they had a special deal through Fleet. $1450 which he stated was $100 over cost. I just smiled and said I wasn't interested. He then left the room and I heard him tell someone that it was hard selling to someone who knew the car better than he did. Thanks PC. As soon as I sell my explorer I will be getting a hold of Troy and buying my extended warrent.

:D Very happy! Troy walked me through the process of cancelling my full-price dealer-purchased warranty and then got me nearly $700 dollars off the replacement. Great deal and great to deal with!! I feel smug. B)

Just wanted to post a note of thanks to Troy for the help on my maintenance contract. I took the time to price out the routine and major service maintenance cost of the 55,0000 mile package in my area and decided he could save me money. At the same time, I will be encouraged to make sure the routine maintenace is performed at the proper time. I called my dealer because I heard somewhere that I needed to confirm the dealer would accept the contract - "Issued by Toyota? - Not a problem!" was the response. "Some other non-Toyota maintenance locations might not accept it as payment though, so you might want to check before using them." - and I if that looks like something I would do, then I will check it out.

Processing time? I contacted Troy by email on Thursday evening, got a reply about what information he needed on Friday before noon, mailed it and a check Friday afternoon and had the completed paperwork the following Wednesday in return mail. I need to wait for the coupon book from Toyota, and that may take two weeks, but I am covered NOW with the paperwork Troy sent. I doubt the service could have been much faster had I been working with my home dealer (as great as they are).

If you are thinking about the package, be advised that you have to purchase it before the car has 5,000 miles on it.

Way to GO TROY! :D I will be back to buy the extended warranty.

My warranty contract says that if I cancel it, I can't get another warranty for this particular car. Did anyone else buy a contract from their dealer with this clause? If so were you able to cancel it and buy one from Troy anyway?

Look again at who told you that (and the letterhead on the paper where you read that.) . I bet you'll see some growth in his nose. That extended warranty is from Toyota NOT the dealer

It doesn't say Toyota anywhere. It says Universal Underwriters Service Corporation.

It should have "OYOTA Financial Services"and "Toyota Extra Care vehical service agreement - factory Backed" on the front cover. Platinum

If it does not frankly I don't know what you have. Could be one sponsered by that dealer. I would ask questions

Question regarding the Toyota prepaid maintenance plan.

I purchased both the extended warranty and the prepaid maintenance plan from Troy a year ago. I am coming up on my 15000 mile service. I prefer NOT to pay a Toyota dealer for the non maintenance schedule extras but all area dealers say they will only do the extras, not the minimum.

So can the 15,000 mile service prepaid be done by independent shops OR must the work be done only at a Toyota dealer??

    Thanks
    Bill in Boulder, Colorado

    Hello Everyone,
I was a bit leary about purchasing the warranty from Troy. I'm a first time buyer so I was a bit nervous. But wow, he is really helpful and friendly and super fast. I mailed him in info on the 15th and received my reciept and warranty paperwork from him on the 25th. The warranty itself was less than half the price they were trying to sell it to me for at the dealership, they quoted me $2500 initially. I almost laughed!
    Thankyou Troy!

I bought a used 2004 Prius from a private party and got pressured by the local dealer (it was a pass-through deal) into purchasing an extended 7 year/80,000 mi warranty for $2,200 with a $50 deductible. It has a money-back guarantee if you don't use it for the duration of the warranty. Thanks to the previous owner who told me about this chat group, I found out about the offer from Troy Dietrich at Toyota of Greenfield and got a 7 year/100,000 mi warranty with 0 deductible for only $990. I canceled the other warranty with the local dealer within 10 days and got my full money back. Troy was pleasant to deal with, quick to answer my questions over email and I got the paperwork from him confirming my purchase with a few days and the actual warranty from Toyota within 2 weeks. All in all it was a very positive experience and I highly recommend anyone looking to buy such warranty to purchase from Troy. You have up to 30 days to cancel your old warranty (after 10 days, I think there is a $25 processing fee but otherwise you get your money back).

    • This warranty is not treated any differently than the original 3/36? Has anyone had trouble using it when it did not come from the dealer you bought the car from?
      Thanks

We purchased a blue 2006 Prius (pkg 7) last thursday, and we were persuaded to buy the extended 7 yr/100,000/$0 warranty. The finance manager told us he would include several other things, all for the bargain of $2600. We were exhausted and just wanted to get out of there with the car, so we gave in. After talking to my brother last night on the phone, and then reading this web site, I realized I had paid too much. turns out their warranty is some 3rd party deal out of Florida. We also had bought the TireXam warranty for $399 and the GAP insurance for $600.

I called Toyota this morning, and was assured that it did not matter who I bought the Toyota warranty from, it would be honored at any Toyota dealer. I then called Troy, and he told me that I had until 3 yrs/36,000 miles to buy the warranty. He also pointed out that since we plan to drive 15-20K miles per year, we could drop down to the 6 yr/100,000/$0 for even less money. He told me that once I had everything cancelled, give him a call or an e-mail and he would fix me up.

This morning I went into the dealer, sat down with the finance manager and ended up cancelling all 3 extras (3599!). I should get my full refund in 14 days, he told me. As soon as I get my refund, I will get the extended from Troy. He was great to discuss it with, and the extra call I made to Toyota put my mind at ease on having my local dealer accept the Toyota warranty. Plus I managed to stay on good terms with the dealer, as I plan on buying more Toyotas locally in the future.

After placing my order for my Prius (#3, Seaside Pearl), I started checking out the various websites. When I got to this one and found the warranty offer, I was amazed and to be honest somewhat skeptical, as this is my first new car and I am very aware of scams. But Troy is very understanding and easy to work with. Thanks greatly to Troy for his help in getting my extended warranty! B)

Thanks to Troy! I just got my extended warranty and pre-paid service paperwork. Troy was very helpful and the entire process took two e-mails, one phone call, and one letter (with check). Cost was as advertised. Local dealer service manager assured me he would honor service plan from Toyota Financial Services. That was before I received the Service Certificates and noted the coupons have "Please return to: Toyota of Greenfield" on them. I guess the proof will be in approximately four months when I should hit 5,000 miles, and go to the local dealer for the service.

You won't have any problem because of that... It makes no difference at all to the servicing dealer, all they want is to be paid for the services performed and it doesn't make any difference which dealer is on the coupon. The reason they list the issuing dealer on the coupons is a kind of hint to the customer to bring it to that dealer for the services. Since that is one of the primary highlights of the plan (from the dealers standpoint)...to keep customers coming back for all of their automotive needs, they want the opportunity to sell you non-covered services. i.e. Brakes, tires, alignments, etc... Plus, if you bought your car there, and have all of your services and maintenance done there, you will in all likelyhood purchase your next car from them too. It's all part of the big picture of building a relationship with our customers, and to keep you from ever having to go to another dealer or garage for anything.

And I'd like to thank you and all the members of PriusChat for all the support!! :D

Hi Troy! I'm on the second year of the basic warranty, and am still gearing toward getting the extended one from you. Have others from Hawaii purchased you? Any problems with Servco? (yes the endless question with Servco).

I know they should honor it but after inquiries at Servco, (last time i inquired was more than a year ago) it's still up in the air for me. I figure it must be clarified by now if people from Hawaii have been purchasing from you. :)

I have 250 miles left before I exceed 36K miles and so I have to decide very shortly whether to buy the extended warranty or not. Someone else asked this question and I haven't seen an answer: Has anyone *used* the extended warranty for a repair/replacement? Neither this warranty nor the hybrid components warranty covers the hybrid battery relay. Anyone have any experience with that?

I just had a very nice conversation with Troy and I'm just about ready to buy, but with finances and debt what they are, well, another $875 on the credit card is a bit much right now unless it's really worthwhile. Any thoughts?

I emailed Troy via PC on March 9, telling him I was interested in both the extended warranty and the maintenance plan. He responded the same day with detailed information, answering exactly what I asked! (That's gotten to be pretty rare these days--getting your exact questions answered via email.) On March 14(the day after I took delivery of my Prius), I mailed Troy the information he required. A few days later I received a letter from Troy dated March 17, which included an explanation of how things stood, a receipt, copies of the applications for both plans, and an 800 number in case I needed the maintenance service before the contracts/coupons arrived. As someone else posted above, Troy explains that I was already in the system pending arrival of those things. A few days ago, the maintenance contract arrived; today, April 8, the maintenance coupons arrived. Everything's done!

Oh, when I was with the finance manager, he made his offer of the extended warranty for nearly twice what Troy sells it for; I simply responded, "No, thank you," and that was the end of that.

Thank you, Troy, for thoroughly professional, reliable, courteous, and prompt responses and service--and great prices! And thanks to Danny and PriusChat, too! This is a GREAT forum! :) :) :) :) :) :)
