I'm planning to get racing stripes fitted to my Prius.
I would think that gray or white stripes would look good on my black Prius.
What do you think about that? I'm talking about two stripes going from the front to the back, like the ones you find on a Dodge viper.
Have any of you seen a Prius with this fitted?

Sounds good to me. Anything above and beyond stock strikes me as a good idea.

Someone else posted a pic of theirs "striped" a few months back. (see attachment)

If that's not enough for you see other attachment....

I don't know about adding stripes to my Prius; not my thing. But, if you are going to add them, please make them proportionate to the surface area on which they are applied. The black stripes on the white one are to narrow IMHO; they should occupy about 1/3 of the surface (total) to look good.

Also depending upon how bold of a statement you are seeking to make, your colors could go from white, extreme to a dark grey or dark blue. Also, if you stripe it, consider a thin 1/4" strip on the outside of the stripe, think 69 Camaro Z/28 and Chevelle SS. Next, please make sure you measure the surface precisely so that when your car is going down the road the stripe is perfectly straight and does not run off center; nothing looks worst that a stripe that runs off at a slight angle; I see this all of the time on add-on stripes.

Lastly; try them in tape first first to see if you really like them; then if you do, have them painted on for the best look.
    Good luck.

Careful it doesn't end up looking more like a Dodge Neon rather than a Viper.

Thanks for the advice! I really want to do this, but offcourse without making the car look obscene. I know a lot of guys making there BMW look awful with all the stripes and decals. But I think this will make my prius look a bit more sporty.. I'm 26 and love my prius the way it is, but also like it to be a bit different than the other ones on the road... So my project now is to get my windscreens tinted, my brake calipers painted and last, getting some stripes on my baby!! :D

Also remember that one day you will have to sell it...and with stripes your potential resale pool goes way, way down.

It will probably look pretty good though, and stand out in the new sea of hybrids!

In case you're wondering what painted calipers look like see attachment. (Of course I had to do the drums while I was at it...)

Nice! Blue is a really good looking color for the calipers. As you know the european version also got disc brakes on the back wheels, so it's going to look even better. But not sure yet if I should go for blue or red color on the calipers.. Time will show! :)

I too like the leaves (aka "flames") on the Prius rather than racing stripes. The stripes don't fit the car at all, IMHO. The leaves are a nice parody on the flame motiff from the 50's and seem to suggest some performance capability along with environmental awareness. I thought of doing something like that with autumn colored leaves against the seaside pearl.

Thing is, once you paint something on your car, you're stuck with it like a tattoo.

The OEM Prius is still fine; haven't seen anything yet that I would add to it.

Now that is a nice idea. I magine those flames that are painted on Mustangs and Camaros, but instead are leaves. I am thinking of fall colors instead of green, although fresh geens leaves will probably look good on white. Photoshop anyone?

Make 'em magnetic, and don't worry about resale value. Somebody get that done. would ya? (err... the sides of the car are ferrous, right?)

I saw a Metallic "Sand" or whatever its called with black painted rockers. I think his extended a couple of inches above the lower door line all around both bumpers. Otherwise stock I think. I was thinking of doing my Classic White with black rockers, only the bottom 3 inches or so, and only below the doors. I thought it would lower the visual height, and reduce the slab sided look a bit. Might try black contact paper first, before making it permanent. Lots of road oil, tar, etc gathers there anyway, and this would help mask it. You could incorporate one of the Large Prius decal graphics into some kind of side stripe from a vinyl shop, and change it at will. I'l like to see black wheel centers with a polished rim someday too, but that's another topic.
