I'm looking for a reliable and highly recommended HID kit. Some threads state that the cheap ones are totally fine, while other threads state that you get what you pay for. Anyone have a good recommendation for me? Morimoto is a name that is often thrown around, but I have seen some negative reviews on Amazon. I came across these lights on one thread:

Toyota Prius HID Xenon Headlight Package Deal - Toyota Prius HID Lights

I am only planning to do the H11 low beams. I'll leave the OEM high beams on because I rarely use the high beams, if at all. I'd really like to try out an LED kit, but I can't seem to find any data on them (reviews, etc.) so I'll go with HIDs...

I Have the DDM 35w slim kits 27 bucks. Have them in my camry headlights and fogs, 5 years no issues. In my Prius also 2 years no issues. They are drop shipped from china and supposedly have a lifetime warranty. If you like to brag about the brand you have though I'm sure others will chime in. My friend bought a couple of sets for his buddies for xmas all happy.

55 W are plug and play. No need for relay. They run a little hotter than 35 W but marginally cooler than halogens. Many people think because they are so much brighter than halogen they are hotter. They give more light for less heat loss. LEDs are starting to have greater lumen output than halogen but few systems are yet up to HID lumen output. The problem with halogen is low efficiency, most of the energy is lost in heat. Ive run 55W HIDs for 160,000 Kms with the original bulb and ballast. No ill effects on reflectors or projectors.

I put a set of low cost XenonSupply HIDs in my PriusC a couple of years ago. I liked them. They were easy to install and were super bright. But I'm pretty sure other drivers were annoyed because I was frequently flashed at.

Since then, I was thinking about doing HIDs in my new Prius. I've decided to not do low cost HIDs because I feel my Prius is worthy of a more excellent solution. This thread got me thinking about it: wanting to clarify on some things before HID install. | PriusChat

They X-Treme Vision are very nice. I got the OPT7 HID H11 on my Prius 3rd Gen Plugin Base. But in our Pilot I ran the X-Treme Vision H11. It is very nice. Doesn't void anything or cops give you any issues.

35w are the normal. Some people who want bright get the 55w which as stated run hotter. Also when running the 55w kit the color gets washed out. So using a 5k bulb on both, the 55w would have less of a blue tint then the 35w.

Okay, so I took the plunge and am going to try an LED conversion kit over an HID conversion kit. I found a kit on Amazon with some great reviews. I even reached out to the manufacturer, and they were very helpful...

    H11 LED Headlight Conversion Kit

I also ordered some LED bulbs (W5W equivalent) to replace the license plate and parking light bulbs...

I've been relentlessly searching the internet for any aftermarket DRLs to replace the OEM DRLs. It looks like the DRLs haven't changed since 2012, but there only seems to be one mod available...???

2012 Toyota Priusiii ZVW30 LED DRL Signal 2 Function Corner Lamp | eBay

I don't know - I'm on the fence with these DRLs. From the pictures I've seen, they seem to be too bright. I can't seem to find any good pictures with these on a Prius, but I did come across some pictures of a similar DRL for the Prius V on one forum. The owner took some pictures of his Prius V from 50 yards away (on a cloudy day), and I couldn't appreciate the LED strip...it looked like a single light fixture...

Anyone know of any cool looking aftermarket LED DRLs...?

    Hello Everyone,

I have bought HID retrofits kits from sharphid.com twice before. One kit has been in use since 2008 with no known issues to date. The second kit has been in use since September 2012 and is also fine up until now.

Yes, the kits are from China and will take 2-3 weeks for delivery. However, I feel that the quality of build is still good and the color and output all in general have been great. I honestly dont see the need to spend circa $200 bucks for a retrofit kit with claims of updated ballasts, better engineering etc,.... when I could achieve the same thing for about $60 and looks the same in real world usage. Just my 2 cents anyway take it for what its worth.

    Best Regards,
    G1GABYTES

I had a cheap china hid kit and I had a huge flicker issue. I finally buckled down and and bought a morimoto kit from theretrofitsource. All I can say is you get what you pay for. The morimotos are definately worth the money.
