4th generation coming 2015!

    PCs are NO WHERE near the lesser of two evils. I was a PC/Windows guy for YEARS. I can say this, Mac OS X is a much more stable, secure, and reliable OS than Windows ever was. At home I fully converted to Mac several years ago and have never once regretted it. I wish my employers would get me a Mac to replace my Windows PC here at work.

    As for iPhone, can't beat em. I had Samsung Galaxies before I went to iPhone. I had to reset the Samsungs several times a year. I gave up and got an iPhone. I have YET to have reset to factory defaults or wipe the OS on my ipHone. My partner who doesn't want to come over to the iPhone dark side has to reset to factory defaults and wipe the OS about twice a year because of bugs with the Android OS.

    But this has nothing to do with this thread.

    What I want to see in future Pri?

    1. Automatic Headlights on ALL MODELS. It's a safety feature that should be included and the sensors are already there. Just have to add the switch.
    2. Lumbar support for the driver seat. Power seats on lower end models.
    3. Better grade materials for the door inserts and center console lid. Maybe do away with the fabric?
    4. More length in the telescoping steering wheel.
    5. On the steering wheel cruise control buttons. No more little stalk on the side.
    6. Blinkers on the mirrors.
    7. More factory rim options. IE same size rims as the standard model but different style. Not have to go up to 17 inches as an option.
    8. More sound proofing.
    9. Switch from the antenna to a fin.
    10. Bigger cup holders, or better placement.
    11. Option to delete center console and have movable arm wrests instead.

    No cell phone at all ? Good for you! I rarely carry a cell phone as well, but my wife and kids are indebted to Apple, Inc for their iPhone and Androids (50:50 in our family.)

    As for which is less evil -- that is not the question or the point I made. Thanks for amusing me though with the stance that MS is 'less' evil.

    I have been following this thread for a very long time, but find myself confused about the expected G4 release date. I know Toyota announced a 6 month delay ........ from when? The normal late summer/early fall release date?

    What is now our best guess? The G4 will be a model year 2016, released in December of 2015? Or, a model year 2015 released in December of 2014? I promised my 2010 to my granddaughter and she is anxious.

    2015's are already in production...with typical "show room" arrival late-Sept/early-Oct. So, 6-months further out would be end-Q1/Q2 of 2015, at the earliest; and, then, probably as a "mid-year 2016" model.

    Very misleading analogy.
    A better one would be Volt's battery pack. Owners have reported no detectable capacity loss over a few years.
    Leaf owners in hot climates have suffered for Nissan's engineering choices. In northern climbs the capacity loss has been much less.

    Preventing the top of the battery from being charged helps prevent degradation, as does a better temperature management system.

    Rpms are higher so can drive faster on battery alone I think isn't it?

    I was let down so bad with Gen 3 I'm reluctant to worry about gen4...

    I dare then to surprise me!

    I was invited to go to the showing in Detroit expecting many of the things you guys are now hoping for with Gen 4.

    I found same Mimh battery, still couldn't drive far on electricity alone... No pip "at that time".. Was a major bummer as I expected tons more progress...

    One reason I'm not the most positive person in the world and if you notice most of the Mods around here aren't either... Once you've been let down about 3 times in a row you quit getting too excited and take the attitude "I'll believe it when I see it"..
    Sorry to be such a Debbie downer!

    They really need to do something dramatic now or they will be just another car maker rather than leading the pack like they always have.

    I'll guess Markabele meant that given a choice, a company will stay just ahead of the competition for a long time rather than way ahead for a short while.

    Unfortunately your exactly right... Now that are have that straightened out what will the Gen 4 have that's barely ahead of the competition?

    Wish they would compete against tesla.. It would help lower prices

    'Barely' is matter of opinion. Toyota has said multiple times that they try to improve fuel economy about 10% each generation.

    Personally, I am hoping for the triumph of
    1. A modest AWD
    2. 55 combined MPG (EPA)
    3. Same price in inflation adjusted dollars
    addendum: Oh, and I'm pretty sure driving dynamics will improve from ho-hum to all-right.

    Be realistic. If Toyota could produce a Tesla cheaply, they would. Batteries are expensive, bulky and heavy. And as Toyota has said, barring a tremendous advance BEVs are going to remain niche vehicles so long as consumer preferences and demands stay like they are today.

    Hope so on the dynamics, my Avalon spoils me in luxury and power. I drive on sport mode in the prius and it's still not enough.

    I believe the Prius base model with the nickel-metal-hydride battery will get 54 city and 51highway combined 53MPG (EPA) about 8% and the lithium-ion pack should get 56 city and 53 highway for a combined 55 MPG (EPA) about 10% these are pretty modest numbers and I am sure it will be the correct results! I would like to see at least 60 MPG combined for the lithium ion pack....We can always dream : )zzzzz

    No one said cheap, just compete...
    I love Toyota technology but would love a hybrid blend of some tesla tech to throw in.

    Why can't we have a high performance hybrid? That's not 90 percent engine, 10 percent battery?

    Would love to see 60-70 percent battery 30-40 percent ice.

    If you mean 70% EV miles then the short answer is: how many miles a day ?

    I am very optimistic that the next PiP will have double the battery capacity and thus double the EV range. That is probably a ceiling until battery tech and price takes a technology jump of its own.

    If I may say so, while I understand the consumer preference for a quiet EV hot rod, that is not a mainstream vehicle and Toyota is not going to play in that arena. To the extent I want a car at all (not much, but sometimes needed,) I want to see the American passenger fleet getting 100 -- 150 MPG with petrol this decade, and using clean electricity to make up the energy difference. That translates into a ~ 20 mile PHEV. So long as Toyota is pushing in that direction I think they are being practical and the company aligns with my environmental goals.

    I. Mostly just meant performance... when you floor it going 50 or even 70 where is the power coming from?

    An even larger engine or instantaneous torque from a respectable LiIon battery?

    Nimh can't cough up the juice fast enough to give real performance unless it weighs 1000 lbs.
