NAV question

I find that the Nav in my PIP is the worst GPS ever..Has sent me to wrong addres's Also thinks I live three house down the block
at least I'm on the right side.of the street. I don't use it any longer. I carry my Garmin with window mount and 12 volt plug. garmin has never let me down yet.. Get a small garmin NUVI or even a deferent brand but forget you even have Nav built in ... Toyota has to change whatever GPS there installing.. Give a customer a choice and go back to the disk type so you can load garmin or what ever GPS you like

 

I have a new Avalon. The GPS in it is so complicated to use that Einstein would not be able to use it. That is just plain BS. A Garmin is straightforward and very simple to use.

 

I have no problems with mine. I guess it just depends on where you live. It was slow until I got the latest Entune update. Now loads the map in a couple seconds, and says on which side of the road my destination is. In my opinion, finding somewhere that you already know, is trivial compared with finding somewhere you don't know. Or finding your way back to familiar territory from an unknown location. When I get close to somewhere I know, I usually stop guidance. Just my $.02

 

How is the GPS location at major intersections? Chances are the map is what is off. I know mine shows my home location one house over. Most maps just take residential streets and divide the lots up equally. If the lot sizes are not equal then the map is off.

 

It seems okay at major roads. It will show a tiny diamond with my actual position and then the big arrow or car icon which will snap to the nearest road. Example: I exit the highway and it intends for me to keep going. It will show that I kept going until I am way down the exit ramp.

 

Are the Entune and gps updates free ?

 

I do not have this problem with 2010 Nav. It shows me turning as soon as I turn.

For house locations chances are the map is off. Most maps take residential streets and divide lots up equally. Most lots are not same size so the map is off.

 

Entune is free, you can update to 3.2.0 yourself, but you will need the dealer to go to 3.3.0 (I think that's the latest one for 2012). Map updates cost $169 I think.

 

I understand that. It depends on how close the two roads are. The nav assumes you are following its route, within lets say __ feet, and when you get that far away from the route it reroutes.

 

Oh OK, you are saying when you turn off of the designated route ?

 

Yes, if I turn off the designated route, let's say the old road runs alongside the new one for a bit, it thinks I'm where it wants me to be, until the two roads diverge.

 

Right on! This "permanent" installation works great. That little piece of cable is all you see.

 

Do you have any links for 3.3.0? The latest I've seen is still 3.2.0 from January; the guys at Toyota Nation seem to be keeping up with new versions, but that's the most recent one there.

 

Nope, that's the one I had to get from the dealer. They will only install it if you have a nav concern, like not say saying which side of the street your destination is on.

 

That was fixed in 3.1.0.
What other issues are fixed in 3.3.0? Could you check and confirm that you do have that version?

 

Oh was it? Hmm. Well I remember doing 3.2.0 and then going to the dealer sometime afterward. The car is at the dealer until monday

 

I have a 2010 Prius without Entune the Nav system and maps are updated on DVD you always find the update DVD when it comes out on ebay for like $15
I was thinking about trading up a later model Prius is there any advantage to the newer generation nav systems over the 2010 systems ?

 

I have ENTUNE. Maybe some people like it but It is totally worthless to me. Just my opinion
