    Yeah, what he said.

Actually when I first got mine, I used the tax break and gas mileage as reasons as some people I talked too just didn't get the environmental reasons.

Oops, same thing--not a decisive factor for me, so I voted "no" without reading it. For me, it was the HOV sticker all the way.

For me, the tax breaks were the difference between buying a used 2004 Prius and a new 2006 Prius. The $3150 I expect to get back next Spring on my taxes made the price the same for both.

The tax credit changed my timing. Without it I would have waited for our 1988 BMW with 145K miles to die.

Nope. When I didn't have to wait at all for a 2005 (I bought in OCT 05) I just jumped on it (the deal, not the car). I would have bought the car with 0 financial incentives. Don't get me wrong, though, I ain't complaining. The $2000 Fed deduction and $3434 state tax credit (which I didn't know about until after I bought the car) are lovely things indeed.

Except for more miles and less years, ditto for me!

I was going to wait for a convertible hybrid (uh...ragtop, not vegetable-oil). (I now have a job that lets me stay at home about 1/2 the time, so gas prices and environmental issues were already being addressed, somewhat.)

But a $3k incentive to buy a new hybrid when my old Saab was starting to show serious signs of aging? Say no more!

Love love LOVE my 2006! Now I'm very glad I didn't wait.

What I want to know is this: What am I going to need in order to get the credit? I didn't see any special form. There is plenty of proof, but what will my 2006 Federal form ask of me???

    Thanks,

    X

I was waiting for my 1994 MPV to die but it just wouldn't! I'm hanging on to it because...I can!

The tax credits were THE reason of bought as soon as I did, though I wasn't ready to have payments again. But, I have to say that now I'm glad I didn't wait. I just LOVE this car.

We would have bought our 2006 Prius even without the tax credit, but it sure didn't hurt. Like i've said before if this Prius works out when I'm done with my 2003 Accord I'll get another Prius.

So far the car has been very good to us. We're very pleased with "Sir Gumdrop."

Get turbo tax. I think it'll ask you if you bought a hybrid in '06. Just take it from there.

The tax credit and the HOV sticker are the factors. Now I'm facing a dilemma, my current car is a 1990 Legend with 162000 miles with no sign of dying, or getting tired, hmmmm.....

I would have bought a hybrid regardless (I've been looking at them ever since the Insight made its debut). But had it not been for the tax incentive, I probably wouldn't have made the purchase quite yet. I think I would have put a little more money into the Honda and driven it for another six months to two years.
