I am in a raging argument at work about which side the front California carpool sticker shoud be on. My friend (Sticker 815) say's the passenger side is where it belongs. I (Sticker 45,600) on the other hand have a picture with the instructions that clearly shows the driver's side. Does anyone know why one side over the other? I am assuming the instructions changed but am curious at which sticker number they did, anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks, Jim...

    The instructions have not changed.

When facing the front bumper, the sticker goes on the right - driver's side.
When facing the rear bumper, the sticker goes on the right - passenger side.

If the question is only for the front ones, it is the driver's side. Just like the instructions have always stated.

My question is about the very early instructions, my co-worker swears he had a picture showing the front sticker on the passengers side and he has sticker # 815. Does anyone with a low number sticker still have the original instructions?

    Thanks, Jim...

Not referring to the very early instructions, but the instructions on the envelop are very poorly written. There is a small figure showing the sticker on the driver side, but the instructions say to put the sticker on the right side. I felt whenever the right side of a vehicle is referred to, it should always mean the passenger side. Just like starboard side of a ship. But others have pointed out they meant the right side of the fender when looking from the front.

I called DMV who said to call CHP. I called the local CHP office in LA who said the point had been discussed and that it should go on the passenger side. But others have pointed out that in the Bay area where there is a grass area on the left CHP officers stop in the middle and expect to see the sticker on the driver's side.

Ask your co-worker to produce the instructions, I'm betting his memory is faulty. My sticker isn't really early (October) but it had a picture of the sticker on the drivers side.

They should have made a "wrap" like the ad cars have. It would take the guess work of where to put them. Just put them on every corner. My mileage dropped 4-5 after putting them on. They must increase drag quite a bit, to cause such a drop in MPG. I do get home 20-30 minutes sooner though. Worth it? Your mileage may vary....

I've found that they decrease lift though, so on balance I think they're beneficial.

I also had a drop in mileage, but it's because now I'm driving 65 in the carpool lane instead of 35 with the common folk... Getting home an hour early is all good...
