Hi - I'm a happy new Bay Area Prius owner (2006 Silver, Package #8). I'd love to meet with other Prius drivers to talk about our cars and learn from each other (or at least be able to go on and on about our Prius in good company!). Any plans for a local get-together?

    Thanks,
    Alice (aka Prialice)

I have read the posts but didn't see a specific date for the next get-together - I'll keep checking.

Thanks for the suggestion about the BT plate - I had been considering it and you've just resolved my indecision!

Look on the left part of your screen, bottom of the list "PriusChat Offers", and you will see "BT Tech Chassis Stiffening Plate available here!".

Summary of many threads on this subject in this form, it would probably make your 05 more stable in the crosswinds that you might feel, while driving on the Interstate. I don't have it yet, but I am seriousely thinking about it.

    Hello,

Just joined the (excellent) site today after placing an order for a Prius yesterday here in San Jose. I'd be interested in any words of wisdom in terms of dealer experiences, advice, etc. ?

My first test drive yesterday really blew me away. The car is incredibly roomy, has great performance, and working in the technology industry, the systems integration and displays are a treat. I couldn't get over how odd it felt to be sitting a parking lot with the sales team explaining the features with the car switched "on" -- the A/C running, etc. -- and not a drop of engine noise.

I can't wait...now if I could just get it sooner!

    welcome to the group Matt.

My recommendations? get the BT tech plate. In san jose it makes a huge difference on our streets and highways.

Second. feel free to get the extedned warranty but nothing else. All the service this car needs is oil change. I would recommend doing it yourself and just keeping the receipts on file. it's only every 5k miles. then.. there will be tire rotations. then air filters when they get dirty. that's about it till you get up to 100k miles. fluid replacement. I know the owner manual says "major checkups"... just look under your car to make sure nothing is breaking.. nothing feels loose. All bushings look good, and so forth.

Hope you enjoy your car and maybe you can attend our next prius meet :)

I'm in Cupertino with a White 06 "IRS PRO" as license.

Got the baby Jan 24 and am on the list for the Camry, but the more I drive my guppie (with the shark fin antenna on the top) the less likely the Camry Hybrid will see my garage.

    Why don't Prius owners wave?

Thanks Larry -- quick question -- how did you get the different antenna? Is that due to having XM service?

(Sorry for what is probably an obvious newbie question!)

I am now in Carson City, NV and your group is the closest. Hi yall. Whenever the roads are open I can consider crossing those little hills and participating in your meetings.

Tochatihu is 2001 Prius with 86k miles, Nokian i3 185/65 tires, 110 vac inverter, sound deadening in front doors and under the hood, added tweeters, Graham Davies miniscanner, KN engine air filter, washable electrostatic cabin air filter, a full-sized spare tire, a *second* replacement 12 v battery, a backup 12v battery, foglights, Yakima roof rack, and Sylvania Silverstar headlights. Possibly another thing or two currently forgotten.

Hello all -- just picked up my Seaside Pearl #6 at the Toyota place in Capitola. Yippee!! I put in the order on March 25, and it came in April 14, I think, but I was out of town so I finally got to pick it up today. :D

Does Capitola/Santa Cruz count as Bay Area? I hope so.

I think I did pretty well on declining the extended warranty and prepaid maintenance stuff, since my husband wasn't with me and I tend to be a sucker for that kind of thing. Now I see if I wanted the prepaid maintenance I could get it for $670 or so here, while they were offering it to me for $995. And they said I had to get it TODAY or it would be too late. Hah.

Nice to meet you all, and I'm sure I'll be back often with questions. I've put on 2 miles so far! Woohoo!

welcome to the group. I don't know... with soo many people.. the wave has dissapeared. I don't even wave anymore... kinda sad.. but true...

i do look at people to see if they are looking. if they are, i nod and usually they wave or nod back with a smile.

so.. some communication is there. i'll try to wave more often.

    Hello Group,
I picked up my 2006 Magnetic Gray #8 from Toyota Sunnyvale on Friday, 4/28/06. I got one of the first gray cars on the lot. I put my deposit in on 10/27/05- six month wait. Toyota Sunnyvale is <1 mile from my house.

Thanks to PriusChat for all the great information. I have been reading since September. Now that I own a Prius, I will start contributing. Bought a BT Stiffening plate and the HeatShield yesterday. Faxed the Fastrak application today.

I am going to post a fuller description of my buying process when I get time. Let's just say, there was a better way. Toyoto Sunnyvale Sales Manager said they can help me get my plates. But when I followed up, none of the salesman have any idea what I am talking about. Hardly anyone there sees the big picture.

Yesterday was the first full day in the sun for my Prius (at work) and the stick deodorant in my gym bag melted.

Hello SF! I just took delivery on my new 2006 Silver Pine #8 last April 21st from Walnut Creek, Toyota. Stacey was my saleslady. She was nice and not full of a lot of BS, like so many car sales folks. We allocated the car last December 2005. I was set on "Silver Pine" as a color and was willing to wait...even to 2007 if I had to!

I have noticed that Prius folks wave to each other like folks who cruise past each other on yachts. That's cute.

Now I'm off to find the "Prius Chat" info that will tell me the steps to take to process the Fastrack Application and get the stickers for the HOV lanes.

    C'Ya!

Calbin of Walnut Creek, CA :p
