Picked up a 2013 tonight and on the drive home, the map on the screen was so bright it was blinding me. The background color was daytime gray and I figured that the system would detect that I was driving at night and put the map in a night mode. Is there a way to setup the car to an auto day/night detect so that it will change the color from that bright gray to a dark background at night?

    Many thanks in advance!

I have the 2012 nav. Do the rest of your lights dim on your dash when the headlights are on? If not, your brightness wheel on the left side (might be clicked into the max settings).

If they do dim, I've seen the settings for auto dim in the nav settings screen itself. Be sure you are parked or only a limited number of options are shown.

    Goodluck!

You mean to tell me that the auto mode is triggered by whether you have the console dash dimmer switch in the max position or not??? That sounds kinda crazy but I have yet to check to see if it is in the max position.

Yes, I do have the vehicle parked at the moment and the headlights turned on so all of my options are available but I don't see anything in the "setup" that points to auto dim itself. Not even in the advanced nav under setup. Strange...

Holy smokes genetiix, you were spot on! When I click it down a notch from max the screen went into night mode immediately. In addition, I then went into the display under setup and the option to manually select between day and night mode magically appeared! Thank you again for the assistance!

I am perplexed to why this is however. Such a small thing has been driving me mad. Should just be a setting. Gonna have to play with it though tonight. I was gonna post a new thread cause I could not find any info but right before I did a search with the words I was going to use for the thread.

Thanks. Glad I found this thread.

I still can't seem to get it to work in a manageable way. Worst managed Nav setting ever. I'm truly annoyed. Simple. Light on or dash should have no effect here. If it's dark out, it goes to night mode. It's common sense. My 2005 and 2006 lexus did it auto. Why not 2010 prius with more features!?

Are you saying that you have your interior lights setting set to just a notch under full and your navigation screen isn't automatically changing from the day setting to the night setting when it gets dark out? Mine automatically switches without me having to do anything.

Since I updated the firmware version of my nav to 2.2.0, it switches from day to night.

How to update firmware? If it's not a simple answer I'll read the manual.

Look in the owners manual and it shows where the dealer, with their laptop with proprietary software and change the setting, +2 to -2 to vary the effect of the light sensitivity. Pain in the nice person is something that anybody should be able to adjust has to be done at the dealership. I flipped that switch for months before I finally got pissed off enough to get it properly adjusted at the dealership.
