Let's keep this simple, obviously, we tend to wear the same clothing more than once, no need to muck it up with various depreciation methodologies...

    Me:

    Shoes $200
    Suit: $500
    Belt: $25
    Shirt: $35
    Tie: $35
    Undershirt: $7
    Boxers: $6
    Sox: $5
    Watch: $275

Damn, even I didn't realize it...

    $1,088

(although I'm sure that's BEANS compared to some people I work with...)

Right now I'm wearing a uniform provided by the company, so I'm only paying for shoes and underwear. Oh, and an $18 watch. That might burp it over $50.

It didn't really occur to me until a few moments ago, but just think, $3,000 and UP, is a very REAL, and not that unlikely, option here in the U.S.. Think about it, it's actually not too unrealistic that someone will exceed the $10K mark... Heck, I know people right now that would cross the $10K mark (although they're not PC members)...

It's a weird perspective knowing that the cost of the clothes you're wearing today, probably exceeds the ANNUAL income of 60% of the world...

If I cannot remember how many years ago the clothes were bought, should this affect my answer ? :)

Tennis shoes: $10, 10 years old (2 for 1 deal)
    Pants: $10, 5 years old
    T-shirt: $2, this year
    Polo long-sleeve: $6, this year
    Socks: 50 cents, brand new.

I usually go on a buying binge every 2 - 5 years, and this season was it. I bought about $75 of clothes at $5/item at the end of winter sale in Old Navy.

    hmmm.

    1. shoes, $70 (that's where i splurge, nothing more worth it than comfy shoes)
    2. pants, on sale for $25
    3. shirt, on sale for $7
(2 and 3 purchased with a gift card but i'll count them)
    4. fleece, on sale for $12
    5. underthings totaling maybe $40
    6. watch, $20

$174, not including the wedding ring.

edit: and to compare men vs women:

DH has a set of company uniforms, costs us maybe $100/year for all that stuff so that's about 30 cents per uniform day.

    1. uniform, $0.30
    2. socks, $0.50
    3. shorts, $2
    4. steel toe, electric safe work boots, $150

$152.80, but the money is spent very differently.

Dang, I didn't figure in my wedding ring...should I? I mean, jewelry is really going to throw off your numbers. Was the goal to find out how much people spend on clothing or how much they carry on their person at a time? What about a PDA in the pocket or cash in the wallet, etc?

And yea, $10k is nothing if someone's wearing a Rolex and we're counting watches/jewelry.

Like I said, I'm under $100 for cloths, but with watch/ring/ear ring I'm over $1000.

Yeah, a person could be wearing very expensive garb right now...but maybe a person wears that same outfit all week long...

Me personally, per day, whatever I'm wearing usually averages $50 - $100.

I'm not in the business where I have to compete - my work speaks for itself.

Bavarian Oki hat: 125 GDM (Deutsche Mark) . . . O.K. So I had a few too many pints at Löwenbräu Keller, but I still like the hat . . . and the laughs I get from German tourists in Yosemite.
No watch or jewelry . . . hate the stuff on me.

    NOT working today . . . Priceless.

Low maintenance so no jewelry, sometimes a hair thingy but once I get home item #5 flies off. Used to be #3 too but I find that my knees feel better when I keep my shoes on while walking on my concrete floors.

I really like to get thrift store finds and the shoes are normally $90 but worth every cent. I could never do $275 for a watch.

No, no. I was still all pink and glowing from my hot shower. Teach me to check PC before getting dressed! Now my vote is all different! Do we now include the cash in the wallet? Cell phone? Credit card limits? This is getting complicated. I'm gonna go get naked again just so I can have some peace.

Wearing uniform including boots. Underwear and sock are all that I paid for. ~$40 watch and wedding ring. Even when not at work I don't wear expensive clothes. Cheap jeans, work boots, and T-shirts or Polo shirts that I usually get for free.
