I don't "attack" anybody......unless and until they post things represented as "facts" when they really are NOT.
And then the "attack" is really just trying to clarify the picture for others reading.

I will not be baited into spending my time trying to prove or dis-prove what someone else posts who represents it as "fact". Facts have references; those who claim facts should be able to back them up. Otherwise they are just opinions; some good and some not so much.

Nothing I posted was a "personal attack".
What YOU posted, however, has no purpose other than to cut me down.
    Please stop.

Answer To The Question: Battery Desulfators - Do They Work? - Blog | Impact Battery Blog

Opinions are mixed on this subject. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. The material I post here on Prius Chat is based on factual material that I have researched myself online along with material that others have posted here on Prius Chat that I have personally tested and proved to be reliable plus personal experiences that I have learned over the time of owning two different Pri.

Not arguing, just clearing up some things. Best of luck to everyone here.

Is the pot calling the kettle black???? Hmmmmm? Think so.

You don't want to be baited into proving or disproving something but, you want them to prove what they say?? Hmmmmm???

As a followup - the battery in the Prius seems to be OK. After a continuous drive of 5-6 hours on the Mass Turnpike and I - 95 the 12-volter seems to holding charge. :)

On a separate and distinctly different note - I use a lot of underwater scooters (caves/deep wreck diving) which either use SLA batteries (Yuasa/Panasonic), or NiMH Rabbit Tools batteries. They are the James Bond type scooters shaped like torpedos.

With these unit I tend to keep the batteries trickle charged. But often I forget to do this with the SLA's and they go funny after a while. I also use a burn tester to make sure the batteries are holding full charge because if I am penetrating a long tunnel underwater I need to know I can make it out. That said - we often carry a redundant scooter scooter strapped near our derriere'. :D

I'm sorry but I put little stock in stuff found in forums or blogs.
How about a paper from Exide or some known and respected Engineer in the field ?

The simple fact IS that one of the main causes of failure in a wet cell battery is sulphation build-up that settles to the bottom and shorts out the plates. That does NOT happen in an AGM to any significant degree.

Thank you so much for your nice words, Mr Nice Man. Perhaps anger management would help?

Well, what you peddle as the "fact" is not a fact. Sulfation DES NOT short batteries, electrode corrosion and shedding does. Go ahead and check the literature yourself. Could your problem be memory related?

Sulphation IS electrode corrosion and shedding is THAT falling to the bottom.

I quit. Anybody who wants to know the real story can do their own research.
After all, I too am just another unknown voice on a forum.

    No anger here whatsoever.
Getting upset over what happens in Internet forums is not good for your health.

No, sulfation is crystallized lead sufate, corrosion is lead oxide. Shedding is accumulation of conductive electrode particles at the bottom. Three different things. Corrosion is cased by overcharging, sulfation by undercharging.

    Exactly.

    Good for you.

By definition, "corrosion" is the unwanted chemical combination of a useful substance (usually metal) with another substance to produce something that is not useful.

Inside a battery, any substance that is produced by combining something with the lead plates to produce a permanent change IS corrosion.

Where do you think the lead comes from in the lead sulfate ??

Edit: No, I'm sorry. This "discussion" is mostly pointless.
AGM batteries really do last longer.
Most consumers don't really care why.

Well, all this discussion of batteries, opinions, and not believing cited information could go on for a very long time.
I hope you all have comfy chairs.

In the meantime, does anyone care anymore why CapeAnn's battery died?
Does anyone even remember that she started this thread?

Is this a test? "She" is a "He". He told everyone that his wife left an interior light on.

Why, why did Prius only make half of the positive tab in the engine compartment conductive?? Non-conductive plastic on the back of the tab (out of sight) evidently to see if we are paying attention when we try to connect the charger cables. Maybe some engineer or bean counter got a bonus for aggravating the h3ll out of me.

^ It depends too on the jaws of the connecting clamp. Some will the make the circuit on either side, some not.
