    Hi Everyone!

I was hoping someone would be able to give me some advice about repairs for my car and a rough estimate of how much it might cost. I side-swiped a curb and at first thought it was just some scratches that I could buff out, but found out I split the back part of the side molding (I think that's what it is called). It's an ugly rent- I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to replace the whole part. If I replace it, it will just be the thin strip under the doors, correct?

What should I do, and how much do you think it will cost? (I don't want to be taken advantage of at a repair shop.)

Please let me know if you need more pictures. 20140817_101442.jpg

welcome to priuschat! that little thing? i'd guess $3-500. at a body shoppe. if i couldn't afford it, i would sand the scratches and apply some primer and touch up paint. all the best! nice color btw.(y)

A body shop may be able to repair it. The only way you will know is to take it to a couple of body shops for estimates. I have curbed mine a couple of times and it is not a good feeling. You probably have a nice car. Just have a pro fix it. That is the best solution.

Thanks so much for the advice! Yeah, hitting the curb is the worst- this is the only scratch on the car so it would be nice to be able to fix it.

Good luck with your fix. I got a 1 1.2" split on the bottom of the front bumper, and was wondering if anyone had a "fix" that an owner could try. Currently using Gorilla tape(clear) to prevent further splitting while driving.

I don't have any experience at all for a do-it-yourself fix. I have experience in doing damage to mine like you did to your car. My experience in talking to body shop pros and having my work done is that in order to have it done right an experienced body man has to do it. You have a nearly new car and if I were you I would just suck it up, get a couple of estimates and have a body shop repair it. You will be much happier with the results you will get. Just my opinion.
