    Hello,

I tried a search for this problem on the forum and did not find anything specific to my problem. If there is a thread or link please share.

My wife has a 2009 Prius and the center display does not work. At first it was intermitent but now it is off and does not come on at all. We can still control radio & AC through the controls on the steering wheel.
I checked the 2 fuses the manual associates with the display(s) and they are both still good.

Googling brought up some interesting conversations but nothing on how to trouble shoot or repair.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jim

I know you can turn it off. Play around with the side buttons before you go to the dealer.

A dead MFD has not been something that people have been able to repair. There are a couple of MFD faults, such as loss of touch screen function, or loss of network connection to other modules due to cracked printed circuit board traces, that have been fixed. But totally dead usually requires replacement with a used unit from one of the many sources. Where are you located? Put that in your profile for better recommendations.

Hit the "info" button just to check that it is really a goner.

+1 what nh70 said. Update your profile with your location. Sounds like you need a different MFD. Hit the info button and see if anything happens. Best place to get a good working one is Prius hybrids sales and service Scottsburg Indiana If you have to replace it you can pull the MFD yourself or pay the stealer to do it for you. It won't be cheap if you have the stealer do it. Autobeyours has instructions on their website on how to swap the unit out. It will take some time as you have to go into the dash. It is a DIY job if you are so inclined.

You can also check the local junk yards, and speedometer shops in your area. Chances are there is a used MFD available somewhere close to you. You just need to call around and do some checking.

You definitely do NOT want to get Toyota to put in a new one. Those things are a very expensive four digit cost and that does NOT include the additional labor to R&R.

    Best of luck to you,
    Ron (dorunron)

Thats for the comments! We are in Phoenix Arizona.

I will try the "INFO" button when my wife gets home and see if anything happens.
Now that I think about it, I remember my wife saying that a couple of times while hitting a bump in the road the radio would go off. Not sure if that is related.

    Thanks
    Jim

    Hi!
I have a similar issue. My 2009 MFD stopped working, at times it comes back on and everything works as expected. Responsive and controls everything. It looks like it is a power supply issue - sometimes the car bumps up and down on the road and it works or stops working etc. So it looks like a lose connection. I removed the unit from my car using some youtube videos, I must say the videos were very helpful and Toyota is stupid to make it so complicated to remove one screen. Regardless, it does not seem to me that the issue with the cold solder applies to my case I could be wrong as a result I am writing to find out from you if you ever got your screen fixed and what was the diagnosis? Your issue sounds so much like mine. I thank you in advance for any information you can give me.
    HP.
