This is correct. However, my plug in is also a business deduction and I will offset my
Tax burden considerably with expenses and depreciation.

    Do a little simple math.

Calculate how much you are paying out of pocket to lease cars for 10 years versus how much it would be to BUY a car, pay it off in 5 years and then drive it another 5 years "for free".

Are you really prepared to make a monthly car payment every month FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE ???

For an individual, leasing almost NEVER makes good economic sense (total dollars spent).

Salesperson mouth moving = cash out of my pocket
I'ms till trying to find the 6k Toy bonus cash my sales guy referenced.
I can't help but wonder if that was his bonus, casue I can find it in the paperwork anywhere.

Now if we will only be able to get deals like that on trades and fleeces up to gen 4's
    ssshhhhh!!

    OK good.
Funny, Maryland is considered a high tax state, but MD has low taxes on new cars, with tax credit for PHEVs.
OTOH Virginia is considered a low tax state, but we compensate by having high taxes on cars, especially NoVA.
So I can see it is certainly more cost effective in MD than VA. VA the older PiP great to reduce tax liability.

    Our best PiP states are:
WASH DC ~$1600+ off (All hybrids/PHEV over 40 MPG CITY are DC tax free)
CA $1500 off + HOV green sticker
    MA $1500 off
PA $1000 off (but it's a taxable credit)
CO approx. $1000+ off PiP (equation based on batt size and car cost)
    MD $550 off
TEXAS $2500 off PiP (but unobtainium no PiPs in Tx)
    Gone away:
WEST Va. $7500 off PiP (party's over: no longer any tax credit)

...let me know if I missed any

the o/p is not about saving money. there are plenty of threads about the cheapest way to own a car, and as many opinions and 'experts'. this thread is about trading up and maintaining a monthly payment. to each his own. some of us prefer to drive new(er) cars, others are mad when they have to replace the hybrid battery on their ten year old car with 250,000 miles. that's what makes the world go round.;)

This! I couldn't imagine trading my '13 for a new '14, they're the same. Pointless. Monthly payment is irrelevant, look at total cost added up. To the OP I'm sure you wound up paying more in the long run.

Treat it as renting a car. X per month for a newish car for the indefinite future.
