I have a PIP Advanced. I've tried using the remote A/C button on my key fob with no luck. Is there some special trick to it?

My dealer said that the a/c button is not really Air Condition but more just swaps the outside air with the inside air. Is that true?

How can tell when a dealer isn't telling the truth? When their lips are moving.

He's confusing that with the solar roof venting which is a nice feature too but not available on the PIP.

He lied. The AC button on the fob turns on the AC while the car doors are shut and the car is off. Obviously it's best to use while the car is plugged in.

"Lied" implies telling a deliberate untruth. I suspect that, as suggested by fotomoto, he was unknowingly confusing the A/C button on the PiP with the solar vent fan on other Prius models.

Perhaps the temperature setting control has to be lower than the interior temperature, and I think it has to be turned on before you shut off the car.

From discussions a couple of years ago, I recall that the temperature setting has to be lower than the interior temperature, and there has to be some reasonable amount of charge in the traction battery to power the A/C compressor. I don't recall anything about it having to be turned on before you shut off the car, but I could be mistaken. I have never used that feature. I think it works the same way for the smartphone climate control app on the Advanced. With the key fob, you need to be within its range, but the smartphone app works from anywhere. I DO know that it is designed so that it will never cause the ICE to turn on.

What is the practical use on a Basic? If you need to be within key fob range, you are about to open the door anyway, which will turn it off

Yup, completely useless unless you are parked right outside your house or office desk within range to start it up before you walk out the door. I never use it.

Sounds like a good accessory to add to my Compustar remote.

    It has a 6000ft range.

Which model Compustar do you have? Do you mind saying where you got it and how much it cost?

    This is the one I have: PRO 2-WAY 901 | RF-P2W901-SS | Remote Starters

I don't know the cost because the dealer included it in the deal, and installed it at no charge. They told me it was a $900 value, but I really don't know the price. I've seen them online, priced anywhere from $250-$750.

I'm quite happy with mine; the only negatives are that is can be quite complicated to use in advanced modes, and the internal battery needs recharging fairly often.
