Thank you for the feedback Patrick. Truth is, if I knew a trip to the dealership and $200 would mean the most basic of automobile functions would be back on track I'd leave right now! You see, although I don't mean to leave the impression I have money to burn, our reasoning for having a Prius is purely environmental, not economic (although in many cases they go hand-in-hand). Knowing the potential ramifications of overfilling a gas tank (on any model) I/we never go beyond the initial auto-shutoff of the pump although I do know that the most diligent of folks won't even let it go that far.

Here's the thing; we've been having some very serious discussions recently about making the move to a pure EV, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. On one hand, knowing that our Prius can't tell us accurately how much fuel is in the tank is enough for this good 'ol boy to send it on to the next owner, but I also couldn't with a clear conscious sell it to someone without telling them they have to fill it up when the tank shows 40% fuel left . . . which I wouldn't expect to be very well received by a potential buyer...

It's a bummer to me really. Thankfully, our '08 is my wife's daily driver and she doesn't seem to have much of an issue filling up at the appropriate time....
