folks. I just had a 35W HID Kit 5000K installed on my 2014 Prius Plug-in Basic. Hope this section is ok for this. Well the lights are good and bright. So my problem is the cutoff line is blue and it really annoys me. Apparently, other websites say its normal and looks nice. Other forums say they like it and is desired. I do NOT like it think it looks cheap. Also annoying is when I'm on the freeway, the ground is nice and white but the markers and signs on the side of the freeway takes turns being white and blue. Is there away to get rid of the blue? I'm guessing not, but any tricks to make it less blue? Thanks.

Also, when I'm lighting up the a wall about 5 feet away, you can see the sides flickering a bit. But never flashing, just like something is moving/flickering around in there. I got the wiring/relay harness still with it but the installer says I don't need it because its only 35W.

Below is what I'm talking about. The further out I am, the blue band gets bigger!

Did you do a complete retrofit, or just install a plug & play HID? If it's the plug & play, then you can't expect perfect results as the stock projectors aren't optimized for HID.

I'm pretty sure he did a plug and play.

You need to install the relay harness, if not you will end-up frying ballasts and bulbs. The flickering is your ballast eating itself.

5000k isn't as white as 4300, this may explain some of the blue.

I'm using a pnp 35W AMP Denso with 4300k Morimoto bulbs, fused relay to the battery and even though the white is crystal clear ultra-white, I do have the violet/blue band at the cut-off. This causes the blue flicker that some people don't like, but a lot of idiots think the lights are blue and install either blue halogen bulbs or a 55w 10,000k bulb in a reflector housing trying to get the same "look", which only makes them look stupid.

The blue is from the scatter of light at the cut-off. It's a by-product of HID using a projector housing.

The only way to prevent this is to let the bulb break-in (in 4 years the blue won't be there)..

You could always "take one for the team" and slap-in a pnp LED H11 kit from eBay. The LED won't scatter the blue as much as the Xenon.

Thanks for the replies. I figured it was normal, just wondered if there was a tweak or something. For the pnp LED, sure I'll do it. Do you have a link?

Well I took it back and showed them the flickering. I found out that they actually did install the relay on there. They said it may have been faulty bulbs. The left one was flickering more than the right, they explained that one will affect the other. So they replaced both bulbs. Now the flicker is gone and the blue line looks a bit thinner. So I'm happy for now. We'll we in the next following days/weeks...
